1949 Chevrolet ½ ton pickup. You're bidding on real one-of-a-kind truck. It looks like the love child of a rat rod and a woody wagon. This truck turns heads, gets a thumbs up, or prompts a conversation everywhere I go. It's has a gorgeous dark blue custom paint job that really sets off the homebuilt, wooden box; the box is marine-varnished siding with a ¾” exterior grade plywood flooring and a routed “Chevrolet” on the tailgate. The blue and high gloss wood is a cool combination. Many of these trucks are rotted by rust, but not this one – the frame, floors and body are solid. Take a look at the cab corners. They are solid and strong. It has been garage-kept since I’ve owned it. It has a Chevy 350 that is bored out to 488 (16,000 miles on rebuilt) with a new Edelbrock carb, and a 700R4 automatic transmission which makes for a great driving truck. Easy to cruise around town or jump on the highway and ride comfortably because of the overdrive trans. It sounds awesome too -- great rumble at idle, but it really roars under throttle. Some updated features that add to drivability include a 12-volt system and new battery, a new electric wiper motor (replacing the old vacuum-powered one), a complete Camaro front end with power steering and disc brakes, new leaf springs in the rear, and a 60/40 bench seat and tilt steering wheel. Wide tires (P245/60R15 on the rear) are like new, and the aluminum wheels are spotless with no curb rash. About the only thing that needs some attention, perhaps, is the interior. Carpeting, a radio, and a cab liner would round out this cool restoration. But it’s totally presentable and functional as is. Obviously, if you are looking for an untouched vintage truck with a standard, tractor-like driving experience, this is not for you. But if you want a fun, throaty, easy-to-drive truck that turns heads in the city and on the highway, this is it. Please, only bid if you intend to drive or ship this from Chicago.
