Vehicle Detail
1975 Triumph Trident 750cc triple This is a somewhat unique story. I rescued this bike from a collector that started to reconfigure it, but then never got around to finishing it. It had been sitting for probably close to 10-15 years when I rescued it. Original mileage is 8,586 miles. It appears from the paperwork that he was the original owner. The bike has a clean title and has no DMV issues other than it is not in the system, since it was stored for so long. This is a custom project just needing a few minor details to have completed. A look at the photos shows that I finished the bike up in an aggressive “look” sort of like a semi-café racer. I have a collection of rearset parts that go with the bike which should give you enough pieces to convert the foot controls. The only other thing you would need is either a set of clubman bars or a set of clip-ons to convert to full café style. I almost went that way, however I just can’t ride in that position anymore (getting old sucks) so I chose a more comfortable riding stance. It is a very enjoyable stance for rides as-is, but yet looks very agressive. I have not completely finished the bike (see comments below under “what still needs to be addressed”) as I have lost my work shop area. Here are the details of the updates: Per the previous owner I was told it has 850 cc pistons/barrels combined with Aftermarket cams Boyer electronic ignition New tires Marzzochi reservoir shocks on rear Morris Alloy wheels (period correct) with fresh wheel bearings – these are very hard to find Dual disc front brakes (stock is a single disc) with aeroquip lines Fresh chrome on rear fender New rear taillight and license plate assembly – much cleaner than the original New grips and foot rubbers New Bar-end mirrors New rear brake master cylinder Vintage Bubb (Double D) period correct solo seat New battery Electric starter removed to save weight – bike starts easily with the kickstarter (a snap compared to the conventional British Twins, since this is a 120-degree engine layout) Carburetors have been freshly rebuilt and synchronized – choke has also been removed, as the ticklers do a fine job of getting it to start New primary drive isolators installed in the primary drive mechanism (this was a bear to do!) Oil pressure gauge installed but needs to be mounted better Shorty low bars NEW period correct factory-style paint in Maroon metallic and white basecoat/clearcoat Freshly repainted tank badges 3-into-1 vintage exhaust with open megaphone – baffle for the megaphone is included but restricts flow too much and would need some rework to get it to work adequately What still needs to be addressed: Due to the length of time the bike has been sitting, it has the following that need to be looked at. First, it does smoke somewhat on deceleration, indicating the valve guides (or stem seals) are the issue. Compression test OK and I suspect just riding it may solve this problem. Worst-case would require the head be pulled and rebuilt. And if you have the head off it would be smart to pull the barrels, give them a light hone, replace the rings and reassemble. Don’t misunderstand, the bike runs very well and with lots of power as-is. I would ride it a bit first and see if things what happens before I pulled the top end apart. Second, one of the calipers drags just a little bit. It would be an easy rebuild for that caliper. Third is the exhaust (discussed earlier) Fourth is mounting the oil gauge (or removing it entirely if you prefer). Just a side note, the engine produces GREAT oil pressure. Fifth, the side cover on the left side needs the metal badge piece that holds the sticker that says "Trident". I have the sticker but not the metal bracket. The bracket is available. SUMMARY: This is a really unique bike with a great look and will draw people wherever you park it. I almost hate to say it but it would also make a great vintage racer. I have a fair amount of paperwork from the original owner on the bike as well that will go with the bike, as well as some miscellaneous bits. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to give me an email and I will be happy to respond. Shipping or pickup is the responsibility of the buyer. No warranty is included.
