Vehicle Detail
Our newest car just turned 100,000 and it's time for a new car. That means we need to get rid of one and that's what we have listed here. We bought it new in 1991 and I'm still using it as a commuter car. It's hard to let it go, but it's time. I haven't included a lot of pictures because our dial up would take me 4 hours to list the reccomended dozen photos. I will send additional pictures upon request. This car is 20 years old and it does have some issues so let me list them just to be up front... It searches for an idle speed between 600-1300 rpm when the engine is cold. This goes away after a few minutes. It has started to stutter when you try and hold the throttle at around 2000-2500 rpm. This is very annoying when driving through town. I have changed the EGR valve, a bad CV joint, repaired several vacuum leaks and changed the fuel filter to no avail. A trusted mechanic has told me that the timing checks out and the fuel pump is supplying proper pressure. The car accelerates smoothly, and doesn't stutter at 2000 rpm if it is in neutral. My motorhead friends suggest the Throttle Position Sensor may be bad or it may be the Mass Air Flow Sensor or Computer. The enginer warning light does not come on. This could be a $100 fix or a $900 fix and I've lost interest in pursuing it any further. The air conditioner and gas gauge do not work. The A/C leaks refrigerant and I quit recharging it about 5 years ago. The trip meter works and the low fuel light works so I haven't been too concerned about the gas gauge. I fill it up every 360-380 miles. The antenna is broken off and so are the pegs that hold the inner hatch cover. I have an after market AM/FM CD player in it so I quit listening to the radio and just play music through the original factory speaker system. The molding inside the back of the hatch is also loose, and the cylinders that hold up the hatch lid are getting weak. It's missing a hub cap, and the carpet is worn through on the threshold of the drivers side and a hole worn through the drivers side floor mat. The center console arm rest is also cracked. The drivers side dome light switch is also broken, but the dome light does work. The preset features that came up with the VIN indicate it has a sun roof. It does not have a sun roof. (I can't figure out how to take that off the ad.) If you're still reading and still interested, let me tell you the good news. The car has never been in a body shop and is still in good condition. The power windows work and the headlight pop ups work. I've done all routine maintenance as required, oil changes every 3,000 miles. The clutch and timing belt were changed out somewhere around 100,000-120,000 miles. The tires are in very good condition, as I think they have less than 12,000 miles on them. If you can figure out the ignition issue, you will have a car that gets around 30-32 mpg, and will probably run another 100,000 miles. On Jun-04-11 at 18:32:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I have neglected to mention two other minor flaws in the vehicle. The fan control knob is missing (the fan still works, it's just the metal spindle that you have to pinch to turn) and the red dome light in the drivers side door is not working and the lens is broken. I apologize for not getting that in the original ad and just now realized my omission.
