Like all VW's there is a story and this one is the stuff of urban legend. But it's TRUE. The original owner, Father "A", was a Catholic priest, whose parish was in Europe. But he loved the Pacific North West. During his yearly sabbaticals he would spend his time camping in the regions parks. The rest of the year the van was parked in secure, covered storage, hence the incredibly low mileage. I bought "Pokey", (I always name my vehicles) form Father A in 2006. He was in his 70's and felt he was too old to continue camping. He told me the van had been sitting in storage for many years. I put Pokey in my shop & worked on him as time allowed. Well Pokey is now finished, but I'm about to be married & will be building a house, so he is for sale. I really haven't driven the van much at all. As I have 5 other vehicles, one a Syncro Semi-Westy which is my camping rig. But he does run & drive well, if slowly. And gets great fuel mileage. Relax life is the journey, not the destination. At 37,500 original miles and excellent original condition Pokey should be in a museum somewhere. But he really wants to be back on the road, puttering merrily along. Original paint Exceptionally clean interior Rebuilt injection pump New: timing belt timing belt tensioner water pump rear brakes, fronts are good clutch pop-top canvas pop-top seal Tires are about 75%, comes with 4 extra OEM rims & tires All original interior except for the addition of the propane heater Swivel seats Both tables All owners manuals, stamped from original dealer License plate rings & key fob from original dealer Full curtain set with front wrap arounds Rear hatch screen NO RUST (-)'s, I have pictures that I can E-mail Numerous rock chips in the paint Missing 2 hubcaps, I'm still looking. Quarter size dent in nose Needs new "house" battery, it's wired with charging circuit & isolator. (I've charged the battery & it's holding a charge. I think it's OK) Rear hatch shocks need replaced, $30 on Ebay Propane system needs to be checked & sealed some shrinkage in vinyl of some interior panels May need master brake cylinder, $40 @ Bus Depot ~~~~I have now replaced the master brake cylinder, so no issues there.~~~~~ All in all the van is in really good condition for being 29 years old. They're not. Body is straight NO accidents. Original paint still shines Answers to a few ?: No AC Cruising speed 55-60, It just takes awhile to get there. Expected mileage around 30 MPG Pokey is drivable now, but for safety's sake the master cylinder should be replaced (Has now been replaced) The propane heater could be removed & the cabinet put back to original, with a new drawer & door Yes it still has the reefer NOT turbo-charged, the van is stock NA diesel Pokey mascot comes with the van, in search of Gumby Seats, carpets, dash, bed , cabinets etc. all in extremely good condition YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN THE CONDITION OF THE VAN.
