Vehicle Detail

HISTORY: Up for sale is a 1985 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel with 161,000 miles. We are the third owners. My wife and I purchased this vehicle in San Antonio, TX in 2007 with the intention running on bio-diesel and possibly converting it to a grease car. My job brought us to Florida, where there aren't many bio-diesel/grease fuel resources, so we never made the conversion. The first owner was a gentleman from New Hampshire who kept the car in San Antonio to use when he visited Texas in the summer. When he returned home he would have the car professionally stored until he returned the next summer. The mechanic, a vintage Mercedes specialist, serviced the car in San Antonio and eventually purchased it from the original owner. We bought it from the mechanic with about 120,000 miles on it. My wife is going back to school, so although we love the car (she named it Dolores), we have to downsize. It has been well cared for by CONDITION: The Good- This car is an excellent 300D specimen. It has the 5 cylinder 3.0L engine that gets great gas mileage and gives these cars their extraordinary life spans. It has the original paint, and there isn't a speck of rust on the vehicle. The exterior chrome and rubber are in great condition as well. The "palomino" light brown interior and black dashboard have been very well kept and are in excellent condition with no tears or cracking. The engine and transmission are in good shape, it runs out and shifts well. The sunroof works beautifully and has never leaked a drop. This vehicle loves the highway and the suspension is like a cloud, highway or city. It has the wheels from what looks like a 500 series or SL from the same era, which I think are more attractive. It has its spare in the trunk, along with the original jack. The BF Goodrich Touring tires have less than a thousand miles on them. It has its original manual, along with service records. The vacuum system works well, and all of the power windows and locks function. It has an updated JVC CD stereo with AUX-in plug for your ipod. It is currently wired for SiriusXM radio, with low-profile antennae on the back of the roof. You can either plug-in your own SiriusXM satellite player, or the wire/antenna could be easily removed. As a rare added touch, the first aid kit in the back dash is intact and has its cover in excellent condition. Overall, it's a beauty and a pleasure on the road. We both frequently receive compliments, and of course the nods and waves of other 300D drivers. It is rare, however, that we see another mid-1980's Mercedes model that looks as nice as this one. The Bad- The A/C needs repair (don't know what the issue is). It has the small oil leaking problem common to 300Ds, but it's just an occasional drip. The plastic strips around the magazine holder netting behind the front seats have some broken places around the bottom (see photo). The glow plug indicator dash light, which alerts you to wait a moment for the fuel to be warmed up before starting the vehicle, works intermittently (the glow plugs themselves are fine), as though there's probably a loose cable attachment. The back passenger window will only roll down from the power button on the door, not from the center console's button. The grill's plastic has the usual small chips here and there. It looks like there was a small dent repair over the back, driver's side tire well, although it took us a long time to even notice it (see photo). There are some very small scrapes and dings in keeping with what would be expected on the body of a vehicle this age. There is some spiderweb cracking in the paint, mostly on top of the trunk, but when washed and waxed they disappear. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them. If you're in the area, I would be happy to meet you for a test drive. If you're not in the area, New Smyrna Beach is a lovely vacation spot to visit while picking up your new car, and we can recommend some cheap, cute places to stay the night. The winning bidder must pay a $500 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of auction end. The balance may be paid in cash, in person, at time of pick-up at our location, or, you may pay the balance via certified check or wire transfer 48 hours or more prior to your pick-up at our location. Certified checks & wire transfers must be verified prior to release of the vehicle or title. The entire transaction and pick-up must be completed within 10 days following auction close. Because of its age, the car is sold as is, where is, and there is no warranty expressed or implied. On May-23-11 at 19:32:47 PDT, seller added the following information: * Sorry for the incomplete sentence. I meant to say that it has been well cared for by each of its owners. :) Also, thanks for the inquiries, but we're keeping the reserve to our selves. Happy bidding!
