Vehicle Detail

1974 BMW Airhead R60/6 -800c.c. Please read entire advertisement. I have this bike for sale for these reasons, I have too many projects, and it looks like I will be losing my teaching position in the “new economy”. Something has to give. Starting at the front of the bike, double disc brake set up with stainless steel braided lines, and a San Jose fork brace. The bike sports Lester mags. The steering damper has been replaced along with all new wheel and neck bearings. The exhaust pipes and mufflers are clean and have no rot or rattling baffles. There are Luftmeister pipe guards installed. Speaking of Luftmeister, there is also a rather rare Luft oil cooler pan. If unfamiliar, there are tubes that run through the body of the pan to cool the oil, and to increase capacity. Do I need to mention, the gauges all work, and the Speedo is the proper ratio. Again, the bike is an R60/6. It is titled as such, and the numbers match. With that said. The engine has been worked as follows. The engine was rebuilt by BMW of Grand Rapids using 1978 R80 pistons (9.0:1 compression ratio) from a bike that was parted out with 14k miles. They were in exceptional condition with no evidence of wear. The cylinders were R75/5 cylinders bored and honed to match the pistons by Custom Machining by Farley in Jamestown Michigan. The heads were from the same bike as the pistons. The reason the jugs weren’t also bought is that the spigots on the cylinders changed in 1975, so the later 1978 jugs were too big to fit in the openings of the earlier 74 block. Anyway, the whole lot was delivered to BMW-GR for teardown and assembly. The entire 600cc upper end was pulled from the rod bearings out and the front of the motor pulled back to the cam, including its removal. New rod bearings, cam chain and adjuster, rings, points and condenser were all fitted as part of the reassembly. The camshaft was replaced with a 336 degree sport cam. (The stock R80 cam is 308.) The engine has approximately 3000 miles on it since this work was completed. The Bing’s and fuel valves were rebuilt using new diaphragms. The bike is not perfect and I do not represent it as such. Of note, there is one small dent in the fuel tank on the left side. The rear fender has a crack that has been repaired on the left side by the tail end. This was from a tire change. I have not mastered the art of balancing the carbs. I have them dialed in pretty good. The paint is original. I believe I have set the reserve price very reasonable. The bike is located in the 17073 zip area. I will not be offended if you or your agent wants to inspect the machine. I will not ship, or be involved in any way to do so. I will deliver for a negotiated cost within approximately 150 miles. With the exception I will not travel into major metro areas. IE: Philadelphia, NYC, Long Island. Sorry, I don’t do city well. -peace Oh, terms of sale, deposit Paypal ok, balance in dead presidents please. Side covers go with the bike. I just don’t have them in the photos. *NOTE* in reviewing the pictures, the pic with the recovered seat, it shows a set of Shoei hard bags. I took them off. Period correct, but not enticing.
