Vehicle Detail
This ultra rare 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is waiting to be restored to its original glory. I bought the car with that intent in June 2009, and have not had the time to even get started on it. The guy I bought the car from had the same dream, it also sat in his garage for 3 years untouched. This car really deserves a better fate than that, so I decided to list it and see what happens. If the car does not sell, I will move forward with my restoration plans this summer. This is the last time I will be listing this car. I was told the car originally was from Georgia, which explains why the overall condition of the body is very good. You will see in the pics this is not a show car and needs a lot of work to get there, but it has the potential. It's no longer a numbers matching car, and I think the owner who did the work wanted either a 429 Boss clone, a drag strip car, or both. What makes this car special is that the original color is Aztec Aqua. I included a pic of a Mach that recently sold at Barrett-Jackson in that color, which was surprisingly hard to find on the internet (try it yourself I'm serious!) There were 72,458 Mach 1's produced in 1969, of these ONLY 597 WERE AZTEC AQUA! That is .008% of all Mach 1's! Less than 1%! No wonder its hard to find a picture of one! There are definitely a lot less out there now, maybe not even 100 in existence. This is why I would like to sell the car to someone who will restore it to the factory paint and trim. I copied the data plate info below as well so you can see the original build specs. Even though I have driven the car around the neighborhood, I want to note that the car is not drivable for long distances in its current state. There is a engine cooling issue that needs to be addressed before I would recommend driving anywhere. 1. Due to the size of the motor, there is no room for a traditional radiator fan. I have a small Electric fan, but its not big enough to keep the radiator cool. New fan(s) and a custom mount are needed to correct this. 2. The radiator is an old brass tube style out of a F-250 truck. I don't think this radiator has the capability to keep the motor cool, so a bigger aluminum radiator looks like the only option. 3. I would also suggest upgrading the oil pan from 5 quarts to an 8 quart if possible. So if you are interested in buying it, you will need to either bring a trailer or ship the car. Here is a little more about the car: 351 Windsor is gone and replaced with either a 460 truck block or a 429 block out of a 71 Mach 1, Cougar, or Thunderbird. I have not had it on a lift to try and read the block code, so I'm not sure exactly. The engine runs strong and starts every time. I have not had to adjust the carb at all and it idles nice. It will overheat after about 10 minutes idling due to the engine cooling issue described above. The FMX transmission is gone and replaced with a C6 auto transmission. There is also a Hurst shifter in the car.The car was been painted Acapulco Blue (or close). You can see the original Aztec Aqua color inside the trunk (pic) There are multiple dings and blemishes on the vehicle. I tried my best to photo all of these. The windshield has a chip in it. The door glass and rear glass are perfect. The doors and trunk do not have any weatherstripping. As a result there are gaps when the windows are rolled up. The doors and trim will need to be rebuilt. The seats, door panels, and carpet are not correct and are from a standard coupe. I am assuming the guy did this because he did not want to pay for the Mach 1 Deluxe parts. An example is that a pair of standard door panels on the NPD website are $120 versus the $450 for the Mach 1 door panels. The center console is also missing. I do have a nice set of Mach 1 buckets I acquired that will go with the vehicle. The rear drums are intact and it does a "one wheel peel" so I believe the standard axle has been unchanged. It has the big hump so I know it is the 9" axle as well. The brakes are squishy and need to be gone through. The tail lights are not wired up and neither are the reverse lights.I do not have the original Magnum rims. The car currently has Cragar SS 20th anniversary rims. Both side mirrors are missing glass and need to be replaced or repaired.I have a new set of hood pins that I have not installed yet that will be included.I have a new front grille that I have not installed yet that will be included.I have a new trans cooler that I have not installed yet that will be included. I'm probably missing some minor stuff, but the message is clearly that the vehicle needs to be "finished" in order to be a daily driver, or even better completely restored. Email me if you have any additional questions about the vehicle. My payment terms are by certified bank check and Paypal. I'm not going to list my reserve so please don't ask for it. Only bid what you are willing to pay and who knows what may happen. Also, no tire kickers on this one. Sorry! I also reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have less than 3 Ebay feedbacks. Vehicle is for sale in the US only as well.
