Vehicle Detail

this auction is for a 1986 Talladega T-Bird. it was sold new by Altavista Motors Inc. at 7th and Franklin streets in Alta Vista, Virginia. I have the original owner's warranty card and was able to locate and speak to the original owner of the car. also have all the glove box books and 2 workshop manuals that come with the car. according to the original owner of this car, it is one of only 28 that were built and the rest were all black and white. in 1986 Bill Elliot set the all time speed record at Talladega in one of these Aero T Birds, and I'd imagine this car was built to commemorate that event. there was a Bill Elliot Special built also for that reason. the original owner only put 41k miles on the car by 2003, when he sold it because he needed a pickup truck more than his T-Bird. he told me he got 29mpg on the highway but that he was not a leadfoot, the 2nd owner- person we bought it from- put the rest of the miles on by 2008 when he parked the car. he did not have a garage for the car and this caused some paint deterioration and fading of the seat material. 2nd owner told me he got a realistic 24mpg on the highway, it sure seems to sip gas. I bought it recently for my wife (bought it on MY birthday...;-) and she didn't bite- not the car she wanted and she wasn't going to just let me have it so it's up for sale. we've driven it around 300 miles in the last couple weeks, it's kinda floaty compared to driving our BMW but no strange characteristics. it's a used car albeit a very rare one with 146k miles on the clock, figure normal wear and tear on the car. the body is very good- they used galvanized metal for all but the roof. no dents, but there was one crack in the front air dam that the PO poorly patched and spot painted. Ford had problems with their paint in '86, the car was repainted courtesy of Ford Motor Company when it was only a couple years old. there are some spots where the outer layer of paint is peeling, kind of like clearcoat peeling in spots. one can be seen in the photo of the left side. that's the worst one on the car. would need a repaint to look show condition again. seats are faded, small tear on the side bolster of the driver's seat. they are cloth. PO was a smoker, there are cigarette burns on the carpet and passenger seat mostly. not really bad, but they're there. back seat is in good shape. the PO's son broke the latch out of the glove box door and that needs repairing. among the items included in the Talladega T-Bird package were the body kit, special pinstriping and side stripes, body color grille, Enki Wheels, graphics, rear deck spoiler, front air dam. I washed and vacuumed it after buying it and then drove it, that's it. no compound or polish..I did spray the wheels once and that removed a bunch of brake dust, should be sprayed again to come all the way clean. it's a good car, very low production and extremely rare. I can find no mention on the internet of another of these Talladega T-Birds but I know it was delivered by a Ford dealer and was a package they offered. I'm starting the auction at a very low price and with a very reasonable reserve- hope it's just what you've been looking for, bid to win! I think it's pretty unlikely you will ever see another of these again. would look great with you driving it! :-)
