1962 Ford Galaxie 4-Door Town Sedan Click Image for Photos 1962 Ford Galaxie This very original Ford Galaxie comes complete with original paint, original interior, original miles and original paperwork. The owner’s manual, Ford Motor Company window sticker and the original bill of sale from Stark Hickey Ford in Michigan are all still with the car. The Galaxie was donated to the Petersen Automotive Museum in 2008 and has spent the past few years in an environmentally controlled storage facility. This car has been well taken care of and, with a little work, will make a great daily driver. Drivetrain: The Ford Galaxie listed here retains its stock Thunderbird 292 V8 engine (an optional upgrade) with 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The Galaxie starts right up and runs well, although we’ve only driven it around the facility, so we can’t vouch for how it will run above parking lot speeds. It was ordered with the optional Master-Guide power steering and came with drum brakes on all four corners which work great. It also has a new battery. The odometer currently reads 71,709 (original) miles, but since the odometer stopped working quite a few years ago the actual mileage is probably around 75,000. Exterior: According to the original paperwork, the Galaxie was ordered with the paint color Oxford Blue. It still has that original coat but it is very thin in spots. The body is in good condition, but there are a couple dents, one on the hood and the other on the left front fender. Doors and hood fit well and shut tightly. All lights and signals work. There is rust on the trunk floor and a small area where it has chewed all the way through. There is also a small amount of rust on the right front wheel arch. The WSW radials are in good shape, but the original WSW bias ply tires were taken off by a previous owner. The spare tire is in the trunk. The wheels have the optional deluxe wheel covers with the Ford lion crest. Interior: The original window sticker shows that the Galaxie came with the fresh air heater, pushbutton radio, 2-speed electric wipers, and backup lights and clock. The heater was disconnected due to a heater core leak, but the console range radio works. With the exception of the front seat which was reupholstered by the previous owner, the interior is all original and in great condition. There are no rips or tears in the two-tone vinyl/cloth fabric or headliner and the original dash, doors and carpet are in very good shape. All the windows go up and down and all the glass is in good condition. All gauges work except for the temperature gauge and odometer. Overall: Please keep in mind that this Ford has been sitting in storage for the past several years. While it runs and drives, we suggest that a qualified mechanic take a look at the car before deeming it “roadworthy.” As mentioned above, the original owner’s manual, window sticker, original bill of sale documents, and several service records are included with the car.
