Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1981 Pininfarina designed Fiat Spider 2000, 50th Anniversary Edition. I had to list it as a 1980 because it was manufactured in 06/1980 and the VIN does not match that of an '81. In commemoration of Pininfarina's 50th anniversary, Fiat restricted total production of this car to only 1000 world-wide. Each one of them was given a gorgeous champagne paint job and a numbered badge. This particular car is #199 of the 1000, and it is not an easy machine to part with! It really is a special car, it literally decorates my garage both visually and aromatically with its intoxicating mix of leather and Italian metal. The last time I took it out I a got thumbs up and many admiring stares from other drivers. Features: Twin Cam Fuel Injected 4 cylinder engine with 5 speed manual transmission. Four wheel disc brakes. Independent front suspension. 14" wheels only found in later models. Mixed tan and brown leather interior with authentic wood insets. Matching tan convertible soft-top. Chrome Pininfarina door handles and trunk-mounted luggage rack. Brand new back tires and almost new front tires. Orbital battery. Mechanical Condition: Most note worthy is that this car has a pervasive electrical or fuel supply issue that occasionally causes the engine to fade out for a second or two, after which the purr goes back to normal. It's never been a problem for me, but one would want to be mindful of that before pulling out from a stop into heavy traffic. I have not found a mechanic who could identify the cause yet. Aside from that, the car runs well and I quickly forget its age once immersed in the experience. The original odometer was replaced decades ago and was not set to the exact same value, so I can only estimate the actual mileage at 65,000 or less though the odometer reads approximately 58,300. The parking brake no longer engages, so the car cannot be parked on a steep incline. There is a very slow oil leak from under the engine, perhaps one drop per day or one every other day, sometimes less. Probably not too serious, but enough to warrant looking into. The tires are in great condition and the brakes feel steady and strong. It has power windows, but the motors need to be replaced. Aesthetic Condition: The driver side seat has tears in the leather that expose foam, currently concealed by a seat cover. The passenger side is in much better condition, with hairline cracks but no actual tears or foam exposure. The interior is in good condition, I would even say very good considering its age. The soft-top probably has a few more years left in it, depending on storage conditions. The paint job also has a few more years on it before it really should be redone. There are a number of very small rust spots with a few larger ones, the worst of which is at the back where a careless driver bent some metal while backing up. That spot is about 1.5 inches wide and runs along the crack in the paint. The rust has NOT worked all the way through the metal of the body, but it should be addressed before it does. There are two minor dents, one on the rear as mentioned and one on the driver's side just behind the door. There is no stereo headset, just a gap where one should go, though there are after-market speakers, equalizer and a power amplifier ready to go. There are other minor quirks that I'll address upon interested queries. It is my fond hope that somebody will have the time and energy to fix these imperfections in an otherwise beautiful vehicle. History: My father purchased the car from the original owner and then handed it down to me. I can try to find out more detail if necessary. It has only been in one accident sometime in the 90's. My father was following too close to a car that did not have working tail lights. When that car stopped, my father didn't have any warning and had a low velocity impact. The damage was superficial and was repaired. Shipping: Buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or delivery.
