Up for auction a 1972 Chevy Malibu/Chevelle with a 402 engine. We do not believe this is a SS model. Verifying is your responsibility, but we believe this car is a factory big block car with the proper motor. We believe this because the engine is definitely a big block motor and the sticker under the hood says 402 cid. In 1972 Chevrolet made a 402 engine and put it into a few of their cars at the factory. The 402 were a 30 over 396 from the factory. 1972 was the last year they did it. Out of 450,842 Malibus, only 22,714 was Chevelles and of those only 10,071 were big block Chevelles. The car has been setting for 5 years outside so you can understand the car has setting syndrome. Old fuel , brakes etc. Sadly while the car was running fine it had to be parked because the previous owner had cancer and that is why a perfectly good car got parked. We had the car running and I can tell you that after setting all of those years it did not tick or knock. We had the car running for a short time (what the carb would hold for fuel in its bowl) it sounded very good. Its current condition is this… from underneath the car has approximately three openings in the floor board due to rust, however a large part of the floor board is still in good shape and still factory undercoated. The trunk pan is mostly solid but the pockets on each side of the trunk pan and an area near the hold down for the trunk have thru rust. The frame looks excellent, it looks like it will clean up and paint without having to deal with much more than surface rust. The fuel tank looks great from underneath! Tires are junk. It has 3 Iroc rims. The glass is in good condition. Inside, the rear seat look like it will clean up very nice. The front bench seat needs recovered. The headliner is gone, the dash is missing its trim piece that covers the “dummy lights” it has aftermarket gauges attached down low. A few cracks in the dash. The dual exhaust is aftermarket on headers and complete to the end. The doors are solid with some rust under the lip but not flapping loose. The car has had bodywork so I cannot tell you what might have been repaired previously. There are different areas of thru rust on the body of the car mainly around the quarter panels and front fenders near the wheel well. Trunk and hood are solid to the eye. Front fenders aren’t that bad either. The nose of the car is complete and looks great. The front bumper is tipped up. Over all, the car seems to be all there. The title shows exceeded miles so that’s how we are going to sell it. . The defects I have listed are not guaranteed to be the only defects ,but I have done my best to represent this car fairly.
