Vehicle Detail
The Subaru Impreza Outback is an impressive little car. It is durable, dependable, will carry 5 persons and has room for quite a lot of stuff in the back, and on top. We have hung bicycles on a back bike rack designed to attach to the hatch, and carried luggage and kids toys on the roof at the same time. I was just today looking at a friends 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and it is functionally just about the same inside as this Subaru. We are very happy with this car, but now need more space due to our expanding family and will pick up a van when this sells. I am a mechanic and have rebuilt several Subaru engines, including the SVX H6 engines and the EJ20 and EJ25 turbos. When I first bought this car it had a damaged engine, and 189000 on the odom. I have the advantage of being able to repair things fairly easily, and in this case I sought a good used engine locally, and fortunately, came across an ej22 engine from a Legacy, with a fresh rebuild, just pulled from it because it had been wrecked. A mechanic from the dealer where it had been serviced, was leaving the yard about the time I was ready to leave with it and explained it's recent history, so it made me feel good about my decision to purchase it, simply based on the condition of the spark plugs. The Legacy EJ22 engines have hydraulic rockers, which means you do not need to service the valve train as is necessary on the Impreza engines of this year. An advantage of the EJ22 engine, over the other EJ Subaru engines is that if the cam timing belt fails, it will not result in a damaged engine, the valve pockets in the pistons prevent this. Just re-time the valve train, install a new belt, and you are on your way again. The car looks really good. It has some nice chromed alloy 16 inch wheels with 205/60-16 tires. I installed a pair of Pedders Extreem Coilover struts on the front which greatly improved mountain handling. The rear are stock, and seem to to the job well enough for my purposes. My wife and I have a height difference of about 8 inches. So I installed a WRX front seat on the drivers side. It has a ratcheting seat height adjustment, and makes it easy for her to drive without having to sit on a box or something so she can see over the wheel. These seats are on the sporty side, and are much more comfortable than the stock seats for these cars. I just replaced the front brake pads, the brakes work great. The steering works well. Never a problem with the cooling system. The AC/heating works well. I just purchased a handful of plastic parts to replace some which are missing or damaged from use. The rearward windows have a dark tint, which makes it more comfortable for back passengers. The two forward windows have a lighter tint. If my wife and I kept this car, I expect it would last at least another 100,000mi before needing anything major. Most parts for these are relatively inexpensive. Of course, some parts need servicing more often. This car passed the California dynamometer smog test last summer. Inexpensive service available if purchased locally. Sold AS IS, where is. It is always best to look at a car before purchasing, or hire a third party to check it out for you. Your bid is a contract. You are not bidding on a chance to kick the tires. What was done at this time? Just Timing Belt or are we talking valves, head gaskets, seals, plugs, wires, etc)? Any rust on the car? I saw that it spent some time in IA and WI. Stereo looks pretty basic. Can you let me know if it has a CD player/mp3 capability? Are the speakers original? I found a door to door shipping quote for $835. It seems a bit crazy to pay that much for a $2000 car but I have been looking for an impreza wagon for a long time. If I had the time I would just fly down and drive it back but I just don't have the days off to do it. Best of luck with your sale, Chet 60k miles? Not this auction. The car had 189k when I swapped the engine. The local subaru mechanic told me the engine had just been replaced with a newly rebuilt one just before the accident which placed it on the insurance auction lot. I was going to rebuild the old engine my self, but it turned out it had a broken cylinder, so I sought and luckily found a really good one. The radio, is an MP3 cd player. 10 years old maybe. I have never played a CD in it, and I don't know if that function works. We listen to AM radio mostly, not music. It's an odd radio I guess. But not something to worry about. Radio's are cheap here on ebay anyway. You can usually get good quality head units for 50 to 150 bucks. I don't know if the speakers are original, they look like they probably are viewing them through the grill. I will gladly deliver the car to the shipper of your choice it they are here in Los Angeles. I did some body work when I first purchased the car. Took out all the door dings etc. There were some relatively minor rust spots that I cleaned up, and treated with common materials used in the body and fender trades. An example of what I fixed is the area around the roof top center runners where the screws hold the runners on. The factory does not attempt to prevent water from entering the screw hole, so the holes rust and the paint peals to a larger radius. I cleaned those up, and when reattaching the runners, I used a sealant to prevent this from happening again. I just painted nearly the whole car, touched up the lower grey/brown color. The paint looks very good. Base coat/clear coat job with urethane materials. It's a good used car. The trans has it's own peculiar sounds like every other manual trans I have driven. This has not changed since we started driving it. I am a german car guy mostly, and specialize in Porsche, even though the trans has a lighter feel than the german transmissions, it is still sort of stiff like a german trans. We adapted to it:)On May-11-11 at 15:16:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Sorry, we messed up the html.
