Vehicle Detail

I am selling this car for my son. I will try to answer any questions you have if I can. If you don't plan to pay, don't bid! Otherwise, it may take a day to get an answer from my son. Here is his description of the vehicle: Mitsubishi only manufactured 315 of the VR-4 model of the 3000 GT in 1996. I purchased this car on ebay from a seller in Texas in 2004. This is a great car and I had a lot of fun driving it, but I'm going to have to give it up to finish college. The condition is pretty good overall, but it has a couple problems which I was never able to repair as a college student. The main problem is a frozen wastegate next to one of the turbos, and one of the belt pulleys has bad bearings and needs replacing. I was told by a mechanic that the cost to repair the wastegate was ~$500, and pulleys are inexpensive and easy to fix (the pulleys can be replaced in ~45 minutes). The car DOES run. I drove it around the parking lot to wash it and take photos. I recommend the buyer replace the pulley before doing any real driving, though; if the pulley locks up, it can stop the belt that drives the oil pump. Features: * Includes original owner's manual * 6 cylinder, twin-turbo engine with 6-speed manual transmission. 320+ horsepower stock, not counting the effects of aftermarket upgrades. * All wheel drive, 17" Konig rims. * All wheel disk brakes. Stops on a dime, even on the freeway. * ALL WHEEL STEERING! (activates over 45 MPH, greatly improves handling) * ACTIVE AERO SYSTEM (activates over 45 MPH, reduces lift on the car, improves handling). Consists of an electric front air dam that drops down, and a rear spoiler that tilts 15 degrees. The front air dam works fine. The rear spoiler used to stick sometimes; last week I replaced a faulty position-sensor and re-aligned everything, and the spoiler seems to be working fine now. * 6-way electronically adjustable drivers seat, can change from flat-backed standard car seat to cupped racing seat to prevent your upper body from sliding while turning. * Excellent computer-controlled air conditioning/climate control, the best I've seen in a car (or anywhere). It adjusts vents and airflow to compensate for the outside temperature and sunlight, and clears condensation off the windshield and door windows in less than a minute. * Electronic mirrors with electric defrosters * Excellent Pioneer 6-speaker 6-CD changer audio system with steering wheel controls AND a built-in 7-band analog equalizer! ALSO INCLUDES AN INPUT JACK! You can connect another music source, like an iPod. The speakers need replacing. * The design of the sun visors works very well. It's a seemingly small detail, but the car I'm currently driving does not keep the sun out of my eyes which is extremely frustrating. This car's visors do. * LOJACK Alarm, tracking system, and early warning system installed (the car will call you if it starts moving without the key) * Electric sunroof * Rear window wiper with washer * Carbon fiber hood * K&N air filter * Super-Dragger exhaust * Thermal Flex steel Y-pipe * HKS Sequential Blow-Off Valve. I really like this one—it sounds like a cross between an aggressive hiss and scream. * The battery is only a few months old. * Two 12V DC jacks * I only used Mobil-1 oil. * Exterior Cosmetics: The car is red with a black carbon-fiber hood. The clear-coating is starting to peel off the car, so it will need repainting. There are a couple of minor dents and dings from doors and rocks that should be visible in the photos, but they are hard to see because of the curves and glossiness of the car. I live in a low altitude in California where there is no snow; as you can see in the photos, the bottom of the car is in a great rust-free condition. *Interior Cosmetics: The interior is tan with leather seats, with a charcoal grey dashboard, all original. The seats have some minor cracks around the edges from before I bought the car, but are still in good overall condition and are quite comfortable. The carpet has a hole worn under the gas pedal from the first owner, but it does not show when any car mat is installed. There are also floor lights and door lights that come on when the door is open (the red cover for the left door light fell off as shown in the photo). What needs repair: * The main issue is that (according to the car's computer) one of the wastegates is frozen. NOTE: THE WASTEGATE IS NOT THE TURBO. The wastegate is just a mechanical switch. A mechanic gave me an estimate of $500 to repair it, but I didn't have it at the time. This condition caused the engine light to come on. The car still runs and otherwise passes California smog tests, but cannot be registered while the engine light is on. This is the only code the car computer listed for causing the engine light to come on. * At least one of the pulleys on the main belt squeal because they need new bearings. I was told by a mechanic that this was a very simple fix. A Google search shows that a typical 3000GT pulley costs $17 to $150 (depending on which pulley needs replacing), and can be replaced in as little as 30 minutes to an hour. As I mentioned above, this should be replaced before you do any real driving. * I own the "pink slip," but the title is not clear because the frozen wastegate turned on the engine light, preventing me from completing CA registration. There are DMV fees due if the car is to be registered in California; I'm not sure if or how that affects registration in other states. * The doors will occasionally lock when the car hits a bump. I recently found and fixed an exposed wire where the alarm system connects to the door lock switch; I think that might have solved the problem. Minor and standard maintenance: * The speedometer cable needs replacing. * Tires need replacing. * It is hard to shift into reverse; the 3000GT's Getrag transmission is known for eating through synchros, so this may or may not be the cause. * Brake disks need replacing. * Slowly burns oil, but it still passed California smog/emissions requirements the last time it was tested. * I start the car every now and then and let it run for a while, but the car has not been driven outside the parking lot in two years; I recommend the buyer consult their mechanic to check fluids and such before doing any serious driving. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS. To my knowledge, this is the complete, current condition of the car. I have tried to list everything here, both good and bad, so you will not have any surprises. I am listing this car for what I believe is a very fair price, especially considering they only made 315 of these in 1996. As a college student I was never able to afford the repair to the wastegate and had to stop driving it when I couldn't register it; now I need the money to finish school.
