Vehicle Detail

1955 Chevrolet Nomad This is a barn/shed find. This car hasn't been washed or cleaned in any form since 1989. It is complete except for the six pieces of pot metal on the front clip and the door. A piece of stainless was also stolen at the rear by the lift gate. It hasn't been on the road since 1989. It does run and drive, but isn't road worthy. This was a sixties street rod. It was a factory V8 straight shift car. BODY/INTERIOR: Needs complete restoration. Needs floor pans and interior kit. Has the factory backseat, with bucket seats in the front. Has rust at the rear of the roof/drip rails on both sides. The inner rockers need replacing, so I would go ahead and replace the outers as well. I believe the quarter panels could be repaired with patch panels, but it may be easier just to replace them altogether. The front fenders and hood are solid. The doors look okay, but do have some rust along the bottom seam. The right rear curved and sliding glass are both cracked. The lift gate glass is missing, but I have another lift gate with a glass in it. FRAME: At some point it endured a frame swap, so it has power steering and disc brakes along with sway bars. It also has a tilt column. I am guessing the frame is from a 1977 Grand Prix with radial tune suspension, but I can't say for sure. I have a replacement '55 frame in good shape that has been sandblasted to go back under it, if you wanted it. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: The motor is a Chevrolet V6. I think it's a 221. No knocking, mocking or funny noises. It sits and idles fine. Cranks without a problem. It supposedly only has 2100 miles on it at installation in 1988. The transmission is a Turbo 350 that drives and shifts out. I drove it down the road when we pulled it from underneath the shed and it drove well. This car is being sold as is with no warranty. Alabama did not require titles for vehicles in 1955, so we will be issuing a Bill of Sale with the car at the end of the auction. You can go to your local DMV and get a title with our notarized Bill of Sale. The buyer of this car will be responsible for making all shipping arrangements from Birmingham, AL 35235 and incurring costs for same. With a 24 hour notice, I will gladly make myself available to help the company of your choice load said vehicle. A NON-REFUNDABLE $1000 deposit is due via Pay Pal within 24 hours of the end of this auction. The remainig balance is due in full within 7 days of the end of auction, via Pay Pal or Cashier's Check. The reserve on this car is very reasonable, considering the money they bring after restoration. If you have any questions or are local and would like to drop by, I'd love to hear from you. On Apr-18-11 at 17:40:12 PDT, seller added the following information: I just got an email from a guy in NY and he has a nice roof for 600.00 so that will help if the winning bidder does not have one. That might be easier than making smaller patch panelsOn Apr-21-11 at 03:35:28 PDT, seller added the following information: OK GUYS THIS MIGHT BE THE LAST TIME YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUY A RUNNING RESTORABLE "55" NOMAD FOR MAYBE LESS THAN 5 GRAND!! 237 WATCHERS 3 DAYS TO GO!
