This is a very rare Mercedes 300 CDT. Even more rare is the turbo option which this car has. This is a beautiful car to look at and to drive. It runs strong, shifts smoothly and is very quiet. It always fires up and shuts down promptly when the ignition is turned off. These old Mercedes diesels are dependable beyond belief. A few years ago I was in Morocco and had the chance to ride in a taxi that was an old Mercedes diesel. The car had over 750,000 kilometers on it and the driver said that the engine had never been overhauled. That impressed me so much that I came home and bought a 240D which I dearly loved. I then heard about the 300 CDT and bought this one. It does turn heads and people cannot believe that it is a 1985. The car is heavy and quite comfortable. The doors shut with a solid 'thunk' and there are no rattles, squeeks or other funny noises. The car has had good maintenance during my ownership and has been trouble free. It also appears to be accident free. It has a new set of BFG radials and probably has less than 1000 miles on them. In addition, it has a new battery. This is a "no smoke" car and the interrior is in nice shape. There is one small split in the upholstery on the driver's backrest. The glass is all good. I bought this car with the intent of converting it to biodiesel during the 'last' oil crisis. But unfortunately I did not get around to installing it. The Frybrid kit is included in this sale and includes a custom fitted auxiliary fuel tank that fits in the back of the trunk. Also included is a brand new 110 volt electric fuel transfer pump with the proper filter to process waste vegetable oil. You really can drive on vegetable oil! In fact the car will run better because you're not burning fossil fuel and leaving a bunch of carbon in the engine and blowing it out into the environment. Few people know that the diesel engine was invented in the 1800s by a German named Rudolph Diesel. He built his engine to run on peanut oil which the farmers could produce. Fossil fuels became readily available and the peanut oil engine concept was soon forgotten. Fast forward to today and vegetable oil is being rediscovered as a good clean fuel. Not only does it burn cleaner, it also lubricates better than fossil diesel! VWs and Mercedes diesels are some of the best cars to make the conversion because they have viton seals which will not deteriorate with vegetable oil.. It can be done on other diesels but usually entails much greater modification. Yes, you really can drive for (almost) FREE with this system. You will need to occassionally buy fuel filters to process your oil but that cost is quite negligible compared to the cost of a tank of fossil diesel. If you ask around, you can probably get your waste vegetable oil for free. When I was getting ready for this project, I had 100 gallons per week lined up at NO COST!
