Vehicle Detail

This is a very original and rare MG TD Mark II with matching numbers. Total production for the MG TD was 29,664 of which only 1710 were TD Mark II's. This car has all of the correct Mark II added equipment. Some MG TD sellers think that "TD2" in their VIN (chassis) numbers mean that it is a Mark II. That is NOT true. A genuine Mark II will have a TD/C prefix in the VIN number and some later versions will have TD3 prefix in the engine number. Also look at the left front of the frame for the correct "C" prefix in the VIN. Most important of all is the Mark II equipment installed. Visible items include two SU fuel pumps, four Andrex shocks, 1.5" SU carbs, bulged area on right engine cowl for the larger intake manifold clearance, certain Mark II badging, reflectors and chrome grill slats on certain chassis numbers. Non-visible items include a higher ratio differential and larger engine intake valves along with a higher compression engine. The TD Mark II XPAG engine is basically the same as the MG TF 1250cc engine. The car received a complete restoration in the late 1980's. Recently the car was refreshed with a new fabric top, side curtains, bumpers, overriders, wind wings, speedometer, running lamps, headlight buckets, spin-on oil filter, stainless exhaust, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, tires, tubes and rebuilt rear Andrex shocks. I also converted it to wire wheels with new splined hubs, brake drums, spinners and correct period wire wheels from an MG TF. If wanted, all 5 original tires, disc wheels and hub caps go with the car but the buyer is responsible for their pickup and/or shipment. The car also comes with an uninstalled heater and a few misc parts. The engine starts easily, has great oil pressure and doesn't smoke. However, as with most British cars, it does mark its territory with a few drops of oil. An MGB 7 bladed fan was added which drops the water temp at least 10 degrees as compared to the 4 bladed fan. The original fan comes with the car. There are no overheating issues with the engine when driven in 100 degree or lower temperatures. All of the electrical equipment works as it should. Even the green low fuel light! The transmission shifts properly and there are no leaks or unusual sounds from the differential. Although the Mark II’s 1250cc engine had a few performance enhancements, it is not a speed demon. It will cruise comfortably at around 50 to 55 MPH. This car could be driven cross country but I would not recommend doing so unless you are mechanically inclined and stay off the interstate highways! I've taken many local trips in this car with no problems but all were under 100 miles each. This is not a show car or trailer queen! It is a very nice driver with a good, older paint job. The seats are not leather but look nice. The carpet and floor mats are also in good shape. There is absolutely no rust and all wood is in good condition. There is no evidence that the car was ever in an accident. I have driven it in parades and shown it at many car shows. It has one a first place and 3 second place trophies in the foreign class at local car shows. Everyone loves it and is a real head turner. Please note: When I purchased the car, I found that the previous two states it was registered in used the engine number 16305 instead of the chassis number TD/C 16153 for the VIN. Therefore, the Arizona title also uses the engine number 16305 as the VIN. The engine and chassis numbers are present and correct on the vehicle if you decide to change it. I have included pictures of the chassis number on the frame and data plate. Also, the engine has the correct number 16305 on its tag. Again, this car has the original engine. As with any 59 year old car, there are no warranties and is sold AS-IS. Please email me with any questions. My wife has downsized my British toy allotment to a Bugeye Sprite and TR3B so this car must go!The car is located in Mesa, Arizona which is about 120 miles from my summer residence in Show Low. I will be available to show the car by appointment on Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th. Don’t miss out on this nice car! Compared to the white MG TD Mark II that sold on ebay recently (with missing front Andrex shocks and incorrect carbs), my reserve is very, very reasonable! On Apr-04-11 at 23:51:53 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: I will be leaving on vacation around the 26th of April and will not return until May 20th. If for some reason the car cannot be picked up by the 26th of April, other arrangements will have to be made. Thank you!
