Vehicle Detail
1978 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Original California Blue Plate - NO RESERVE AUCTION This is a very nice Southern California driven Mercedes Benz 450 SL. It is in excellent condition. It includes both hard and soft tops. It is in original factory stock condition (except for an upgraded stereo and speakers). The exterior is grey blue metallic (#906) and interior is blue mb tex (#102). The soft top is dark blue. Vehicle Description Additional things you should know to wet your appetite even more about this great Southern California SL: Original Window Sticker - The total MSRP was over $27K Original California Car - This means it is not a rust bucket Original Blue Plates - Always registered in California and only has 6 digits (highly sought after) Original MB Glass - All logo’s including the windshield are present Paint - This is in excellent condition and has been repainted the original color Recent Work / Mechanical - Includes new distributor, brake pads, spark plugs, and tires. Original equipment include: Air conditioning Automatic transmission Fuel Injection Power steering Power windows Power 4 wheel disc brakes Upgraded chrome wheels Exterior and Interior Condition: The paint is in great condition. It was repainted in the original color. It was not a low end repaint either. It only has one minor dent in the passenger door (can easily be fixed by dent repair expert). There are no rust issues as you would expect from a true California car! The trunk and spare tire area are in great condition. The canvas top has a minor tear 2-3” on the left side between the small window and larger one. It just passed a smog test and, as the tech stated, this is an obvious sign it has been well maintained. Please keep in mind this is a 33+ year old car. Even thought the dash clock still works (these typically don’t) I am not going to say it needs nothing; as I am not an expert and everyone is subject to their opinion and level of perfection. It does have your typical wear and tear for a car of this age. The air conditioning blows air, however, it needs a recharge. It could also use a new dash pad cover (available for ~$100) and the arm rest has a tear. The odometer does not work. I have described it to the best of my knowledge. It also still has the original California blue license plates, commonly referred to in the car collector world as a “California Blue Plate Car.“ This is a very desirable distinction. California vehicles retain the original license plates as long as they remain registered in California. This is an important distinction as blue plates cannot be put back on a car in California if it was registered somewhere else. It has been in California it's entire time. It is on a clean California title in my name and registered through September 2011. Questions/Terms: This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION with a low starting price. The Jan/Feb 2011 Hemmings Motor News Collectible Vehicle Value Guide Value Guide AKA CPI (Cars of Particular Interest) Value Guide has a range starting at $9,200 (rated as in good condition) to $18,400 (rated as in excellent condition). I will let the bidders decide what they think it is worth by starting it with a low starting price. Please do not bid unless you are serious and have all the funds available. This vehicle is available for inspection during the auction. Winning the auction does not mean it is an opportunity for you to come by and think about it. You are entering into a contract.
