Vehicle Detail
I bought this truck as a weekend chore truck about 4 years ago. Somebody had started to fix it up, messed up the paint job & quit. The paint is rough & won't polish, but I didn't really care about that so I bought it, dropped a new distributor in it, put on lights & door locks, & a few things that were missing , had a local guy go through the brakes, replaced a couple drums & a few lines, put new tires on it & I've pretty much just used it since. It's been reliable, strong, & fun too. The good Built Ford Tough & in 1969 they meant it! This thing is heavy, & strong, in granny gear it pulls as hard as you want up to 10 or 15mph. It's a solid truck with good mechanics. I bolted in a frame type 2” receiver. I have a few parts to go with, speedometer cable, seatbelts (not required in '69!) & the passenger door handle. Simple reliable old truck, would make a fun project & parts are simple to find on Ebay or LMC.com The Bad I think it's a clone, the grille is early 70's & the truck came fleet side according to the VIN but is now a stepside. Some rust, no bed-just plywood The exhaust is glass packs dumped in front of the rear tires, sounds great, for a while.... The manifolds are leaking, no heat, the core leaked & I shut it off. The interior was original when I got it, I just got a dash cover & seat cover & new cabin light replaced the drivers armrest & called it good. It gets about 9mpg, if you don't get on it too much. You could drive it home, I'll even give you earplugs, at interstate speeds it's pretty loud. If it's a long drive you may want to trailer it, especially if you are heading north with no heat!
