Vehicle Detail
1963 Corvair Monza 900 that has been restored and shows nicely. Paint and body are good, shiny and solid. I cannot find any filler in the body panels at all. No rust to be seen. A good solid body. Front floor pans have been repaired and are once again solid. Mid-pans, rear pans, rockers all in great shape. Front trunk pan does have some surface rust inside, but is still very structurally solid. Interior is in great condition as well, no tears, rips, excessive wear. Dash, door panels and secondary trim are good condition. Missing interior kick plate in front of driver's door. Paint is shiny and of really good quality. It does show a scratch here and there from use, but easy enough to buff out. I do not know of any dents, etc anywhere on the car. Chrome is bright for the most part with some (bumpers) showing some etching and slight corrosion. Shiny from 5 feet. All body trim is in really good shape. Controls, lights, signals, back-up lights and electrical are all working. Fuel gauge and aux gauges do not work. Speedometer has been replaced and is working. ODOMOTER IS WORKING BUT TRUE MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN DUE TO SPEEDOMETER REPLACEMENT. I HAVE ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER SHOWING 60K. That said, I do not know actual mileage on the car for certain and will sell it that way. Mechanically, the 6-cyl engine starts, idles and runs very well. Shifts well, clutch is tight. No oil leaks at all (rare for one of these). Garaged in climate-controlled garage and under cover--cover included. Also included are a set of stock Corvair hubcaps (the car now sports Corvair spoke hubcaps that I like better). Brakes well with no leaks, etc in engine or brakes. HAndling, ride and suspension are good as well. Emergency brake works, There is a gear oil leak from transaxle. Car passed a VA state inspection that expired in Oct of 2010. All in all a pretty good little driver. Please check my feedback--I represent honestly, and do not often sell on E-bay, but have had good experiences when I have used E-bay..If you have 0 feedback, please do not bid. Deposit due via Pay-pal within 24 hours of auction end. Final payment within 7 days. I can store if needed longer than that, but not for much longer...I do not ship. Buyer is responsible for shipping and/or pick-up. I have driven this car on nice sunny weekends and it has done fine. While I personally would not hesitate to drive it for a few hundred miles, I cannot and will not guarantee that it will. It is a 50+ year old car, after all. All bidders are ENCOURAGED TO PERSONALLY INSPECT AND DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BEFORE BIDDING. Sales are sales and this is an auction. If you win it, I expect you to pay for it and complete the purchase, just as you would expect me to complete the sale. Fair is fair. All payments via Pay-pal or CASH. NO PERSONAL CHECKS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF PAYMENT IS ACCEPTED. PERIOD! Any questions, additional pics, etc, please call me at 540-246-5777. About Me:Philip J. ClemLifetime resident of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and certifiable car nut. I like old cars, new cars, trucks, weird stuff, customs, hot rods, among other wheeled things. I keep 3 to 4 "toy" cars and a few cycles around at any given time and enjoy tinkering, fixing, shining, polishing, showing and DRIVING them. I only buy good solid cars that I like and know I can enjoy without lots of heavy work or trouble. I use EBay to buy them and sometimes to sell them. I rotate my "stock" pretty reguraly, which is why I am selling this Corvair. I have found the next car that I want to buy. Most of what I have sold on E-bay are cars (one boat). I am a well-known local businessman who has a good reputation, Chamber of Commerce membership, etc etc etc, so my reputation is worth a lot more to me than any car or Ebay sale. My goal is simply to enjoy great pieces of automotive history, share fun times in them with my family and friends---and not loose too much money in the process.... and then pass them on to the next person to enjoy. On Mar-25-11 at 10:50:06 PDT, seller added the following information: IMPORTANT additional info resulting from callers with questions: The speedometer has been replaced. In addition, the entire gauge cluster is not original. I was told that the old speedometer I have is original, but since the entire gauge cluster was replaced, I have no way of knowing for certain. Mileage is unknown. Title shows just over 2200 when I bought the car, which was the mileage as displayed on the speedometer (replacement) at the time. From this all I can say is that the car has been driven a little over 2000 miles since the speedometer was replaced. I have driven the car only a couple hundred miles in the time that I have owned it which is almost one year now. I did see a couple small rust bubbles in the paint today. They were not noticed before. They are located just forward of the driver's side rear wheel. There appears to be some filler there as well. I have not checked the entire car for filler, but being of this age a having been restored, I think it is reasonable to assume that there is some. Also, upon starting today, there was some smoke from the left side exhaust. I am guessing that this is from a possible valve seal leak? Today was the first time it has been started since the fall. The smoked stopped a few seconds after the engine was running. This is not common for the car and I attribute it to having been sitting. Sounds like there is an exhaust leak from same side. The gear oil leak mentioned above is coming from the passenger side of the transaxle where the drive shaft exits. It appears that there is a bushing or boot missing (I cannot tell). When cornering, there is a whine/rubbing noise from this area. Brakes are all in good condition as far as I know. The last time they were inspected was when the state inspection was performed in Oct of 2009. Steering is tight and the car tracks straight and brakes straight. It does not have power steering (doesn't need it) or power brakes. THIS VEHICLE IS FOR SALE LOCALLY AND I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO STOP THE AUCTION IF IT SELLS LOCALLY.
