Vehicle Detail
This is a 1940 Buick Super Sedan. This must be one of the nicest examples of this car anywhere in the country. This is being offered for sale by a private Cleveland-area automobile collector. This vehicle is currently in heated storage in Cleveland Heights, OH as part of a collection of vintage and exotic vehicles, including Ferraris, Porsches, Maseratis and 60s muscle cars. This car and its stablemates have an incredible pedigree, and the only reason the owner is selling is because he has decided to focus on post-war vehicles only. This car has been in the possession of Cleveland-area collectors for at least the past 35 years, and has always been kept in climate-controlled storage, but driven at least several times a year to keep it in top shape. It has also been maintained by a mechanic and it has no known mechanical problems. The car is as original as you could possibly find for a 71-year old vehicle. Pre-war Buicks have skyrocketed in value and collectibility, and it is hard to find one in this sort of condition. The engine is the Buick Straight-8 with a 3-speed column-shift manual transmission. Both are in excellent working order. The car runs and drives beautifully- it can be driven anywhere. The engine is strong and smooth, the transmission shifts perfectly, and the brakes and suspension are in good condition. Not surprisingly, it does drip a few drops of oil (maybe a small spot after sitting a few months). It does not leak coolant nor does it overheat. The temperature guage, odometer, speedometer and voltmeter all work, however the fuel guage does not. The odometer reads 45,926 miles, but due to the age it is branded as non-actual miles. The body is 100% solid and clean with absolutely no rot or rust. The underside is amazingly clean and solid- NO ROT or rust anywhere. The paint is an older repaint that looks quite presentable but it isn't a concours paint job. It has been carefully brush-touched in a few spots where it was nicked or scratched. Overall it looks very nice. The interior is as close to original as possible- it is gorgeous. The front seat bottom cushion and rear armests have been reupholstered in original-style matching fabric, the rest of the cloth, upholstery and even headliner is believed to be original. The engine compartment is spotlessly clean. It has the very distinctive dual clamshell hoods. Please view the photos to see how nice it looks. The electrical system is 6-volt, with a relatively new battery. This car drives perfectly and is completely reliable and would be the perfect candidate for Sunday drives, car shows, weekend trips or similar. It isn't a 100pt concours vehicle, (although it is gorgeous) so you can actually drive it without fear of getting a spec of dust on it. The original radio turns on and makes some noise, although it doesn't appear to tune in any stations. This may need a tube or some other attention. The heat works well, as does the heater blower motor. Included is a large photo of the similar model vehicle in a downtown Cleveland auto showroom in 1940! This vehicle may be seen by appointment to interested parties only. You may call/text me at 440 339 4341 to make arrangements.
