Vehicle Detail
2007 BMW G650 X Challenge w/ABS 6,200 miles The way I have this bike set up isn’t going to be for everyone, my goal was to have an awesome commuter, dice it up around town bike that I could easily transform into a light trail, forest service road, grin making machine. I feel I’ve succeeded on all accounts, a true dual sport. However I’ve a new direction to go and I’m afraid the X Challenge simply isn’t the platform I need to get there, its true, I’ve fallen in love with another. Anyway here's what I’m offering..... I swapped out the stock air shock with a Wilbers which was a must have in my opinion, a few folks may like the stock air shock but I’m definitely not one of them. For street riding it was a total bust IMHO. I had the Wilbers factory set it up for a 215 lb load, rider and gear. Wilbers is the only company that designed and tested a shock specific to this motorcycle rather than adapting a shock designed for another application, if that matters to you its worth knowing. Of course the shock is completely adjustable so if your not the same weight no worries. Wilbers Rear shock, $915 Then onto the forks which are a little lacking and don’t offer tons of adjustment, however a new set of progressive Hyperpro springs made a decent difference. Loosing the air shock aids the forks as well by not loading them by causing dive each time the front brake is used. Hyperpro Fork Springs $170 Next, I wanted a steering stabilizer but didn’t care much for the others that mount above the bar and the post is welded on. I chose the EMIG racing Revolution II, its not only the top of the line stabilizer, its a work of art. After riding with it I can’t imagine ever riding without one again. EMIG Racing underbar stabilizer w/top clamp $830 In order to make the bike a street worthy head turning, rip it up around the city commuting machine requires a set of 17” wheels to get the good grip rubber on the road. A 17” Wheelset (built by Woodys) was in order, the rims are Excel 4.25x17 and 3.5x17 with Super Lace on BMW Hubs. But like I mentioned up top I wanted the bike to be easily transformed. Which is why I bought a second set of rotors and ABS rings, one for each wheelset the 17’s and the 18/21's there is no need to go through the effort of swapping those parts as well each time the dirt road bug strikes. Wheels are currently shod with Avon extreme rain pro’s, a great grip tire because its true, it does rain all the time here in Seattle. In the summer might I suggest a set of Avon Distanzias? I also installed rimlocks on the 18/21’s which are shod with Michelin MT21’s. 17” wheelset with rotors and ABS rings $2300 Of course the boat anchor heat sink of a stock muffler had to go as well and with better exhaust you need to take a deeper breath so a pair of Unifilters were needed. You might be thinking two? Why? No I don’t have a crazy intake setup I just like to have two air filters so I can always have a clean one ready to go! Leo Vince X3 slip on exhaust with four inserts to chose from depending on how loud or quite you want to be $360 2) Unifilter (Touratech) Always a clean spare $104 The stock battery was leaving riders stranded, sure BMW would give you a new once once yours took a dump but I didn’t much care for the thought of being stranded. A new highly rated and regarded battery was in order. Odyssey PC310 Battery $151 Protection for me and the bike. Acerbis Hand Guards $90, BMW Axle Sliders $140, BMW Footpeg sliders $55, Muffler Slider $45, BMW Front Sprocket Guard $100 The only real complaint I’ve ever had about this bike, apart from the air shock, is the front fender. How can you possibly design and develop a bike all the way to the showroom floor with out testing it in the rain? I’m convinced they never did as it takes about 2 seconds to realize the front fender is not very effective at keeping you from getting sprayed. I mean... Really?!? Problem basically solved for $145. Touratech front fender extension $145 And because its nice to mix it up sometimes, a few gearing options are always enjoyable. A top quality chain isn't bad to have either. 4) Front sprockets, 14T, 2)15T, 16T $78, DID 520 VM X-ring chain less than 1K miles w/new 47T rear sprocket $145 Spares,..... gotta have em. I also bought a New set of BMW plastics (right and left “tank” shrouds, and rear tail, all with BMW emblems and stickers), someday this bike might just be a well sought after collectors edition, why not be ready, that or a few get-offs start making the thing look a little ghetto. Only issue was, they are BMW and cost like it. Or is that Aprillia? Surprising just how much of this bike is actually stamped with the word. The “plastics” are new in the box. New in package EBC brake pads (front and rear) $70, 2) Spare clutch levers 1) BMW, 1) Other $50, BMW Plastics $400 And if its cold our you're thinking about getting lost it also has heated grips and is wired and ready for a Garmin 60 GPS meaning the uniball mount set-up goes with the bike. It’s also wired for a battery tender which comes with the bike as well. Maintenance. Oil and filter changes on a regular interval, Valves checked at 5K miles (within spec). No issues on this bike ever, apart from the fork seals which were replaced after a trip to 14,000'+ elevation and then returning to sea level (they started to leak), all in all this bike is rock solid... and a good looking machine. OK, the bad.... Slight road rash on the left plastic "tank" shroud (as mentioned above I've a complete new set for the bike but I didn't think this was significant enough to put the new on), also slight road rash on the exhaust carbon fiber heat shield, this was the result of my taking a dirt nap on a gravel road. Moving on, I’ve just done the unthinkable, that is, adding up all the money that’s been put into this bike...... Breath...light headed.....must breath......hyperventilation ensues. Anyway, I have over $6100 in farkles / accessories so basically a 15K full retail show, however we all know the reality is motorcycles are money pits, its the price we all pay to play. Therefore the sale price is $7800. I’m willing to prep and deliver the bike to a local shipper for you should you need, the shipping cost however is the buyers. I’ve bought bikes and had them shipped before so I know the drill and will strive to be a helpful seller. I can also take the bike to the local BMW dealer for a pre-sale inspection as long as the potential buyer covers their fee, if any. Also note that the 3 year BMW warranty is still in effect and is transferable, your covered until October 2011! All receipts and documentation, including the shop manual on CD are included of course.
