THE REASON THIS TRUCK IS SOUGHT AFTER BESIDES OPTIONS IS THAT THE FRONT AND REAR WHEELS ARE LOCATED OUTSIDE THE CAB WHICH MAKES FOR A MUCH QUIETER RIDE. THE WAGONS I HAVE OWNED ARE SO LOUD THAT IS WHY I STOPPED BUYING THEM. I COULDN'T TALK OR GO ON A TRIP TO COLORADO WITHOUT WEARING EAR PLUGS FROM THE ROAD NOISE FROM THE BACK TIRES COMING UP THROUGH THE REAR WHEEL WELL. THE CONVERTIBLES ARE EQUALLY LOUD AND ARE EASY TO BREAK INTO SO THOSE WERE OUT FOR ME ALSO. OK HERE IS THE HISTORY: This is my third hummer since 1997, this one has all the bells and whistles on it. Three kids later and now its a new time for me. I have taken the time to tell you options this vehicle has as well as supply questions you should ask as a buyers guide to H1 hummer if this is your first.. Just to answer why the prices very so much and that is OPTIONS, very little should be considered on mileage or year as they were built to last for military and very little changes have been made to overall design. As for mechanical changes to an H1 there were not many after 1997 1/2 vehicles(essentially H1's are all same except for interior changes except alpha). There is no off road vehicle on the road today, that even comes close the incredible amount of power and over the land that this car offer. The ride and level of comfort on the H1 is the best ever offered in an off road vehicle with its addition of hub balancer at each wheel. From its incredible take off power to its ability to handle the roads on and off at virtually any speed desired. There is a reason that this Turbo Diesel ($178,000) is double in price with the base model. They may look similar on the outside, but that is where it ends. If you want the best car in the world unless you own a H1 with all the options you dont have it yet. This car is about as close to new as you can come with out spending $178,000! The exterior is in excellent condition. The paint is clean and bright and looks fantastic. There are really no dents to speak of on this car. The bumpers, glass, lenses, chrome, and other trim all look fantastic! The pictures were taken March 10th 2011. The car paint is in great condition as you can see and is consistent with year of vehicle. The 18" rims are riding on a matched set of 38 Super Swamper tires. You will love this Hummer!!! QUESTION AND ANSWERS: For Those that are new to H1 Hummers and even seasoned Hummer owners there are a few questions you need to ask your buyer that are must because these 4 items will be the most expensive to repair or fix. If your seller cannot answer the question there is a good chance it has not been done to the hummer and probably a good idea to look at another vehicle. It goes without saying to get documentation or pictures. I have provided pictures of what you should be looking for. Questions are below and then detail description of problem and fix below that. Questions that should be asked exactly: 1) “Tell me about the radiator?” 2) “Tell me about the pump mounted driver?” 3) “Tell me about the rear air? 4) “Tell me about the Alternator?” 1) Your looking for an Aluminum Radiator that essentially twice as large as the factory radiator. This is by far one of three problems that if corrected on the vehicle will provide worry free use of your hummer. These problems exist in all hummers up to 2005. If someone tells you there not aware of the problem they just have not owned hummers as long as I have or just haven’t experienced the problem yet….but they will! And when they do its expensive, so make sure the fix has been done. Up until the Alpha hummer 06 came out the existing platform uses a smaller radiator that has a tendency for the vehicle to over heat or come very close to when the ambient temperature reaches into the 90’s outside. The other time that the vehicle will overheat is if like me you go to say Colorado or in the mountains at altitude over 6K feet. Why because there is less air outside per volume to the engine burns more fuel in the cylinder and therefore burns hotter increasing engine temperature. Big problem if you like to go off roading in mountains. This vehicle has the double fill radiator. If you buy one without it expect to pay $5000 dollars to fix problem later. www.adventureaccessories.com to get your radiator. 2) Pump Mounted Driver or PMD is mounted on the side of your Fuel Injection Pump. When this part fails your vehicle will not start. This is an electronic component that if not remounted in another spot will go out regardless of mileage on your H1. Even vehicles less than 10k miles have them go out. What happens is this electronic part burns out because of heat in the engine compartment and the location of the part relative to the heat. It is a factory problem. Good news though there is a fix for it and it has been done to this vehicle which pretty much eliminates any further failures of the part. If you have a problem with this there is a good chance that it will cost you $2800 dollars to replace. And if you don’t fix the core issue it may happen a year later to you. It is crucial then that the PMD be remounted in a new location and measure be taken to reduce heat to the part. That involves a kit which has fins on it much like you see on a car stereo amp to dissipate heat that this vehicle has to remount it in another location. 3) AC System. Basically check to see if the vehicle you are purchasing has it. The system was upgraded in vehicles produces after 1997 ½. It addition check to make sure it works in back. If it is not there is a good chance the orfus that it passes through is clogged and either will need to be replaced. Any work to fix this problem will require technician to empty Freon in AC system. 4) Alternator. There are two different alternators that can be purchases one that puts out 115 amps which comes standard and one that you can purchase seperately that puts out 140 amps. This vehicle has the 140amp alternator. The problem is that when the vehicle does not have a higher output amp all the equipment running in the vehicle has a tendency to kill batteries and cause slow starts as well as dead batteries every 6 month or so. The way you can check to make sure that your vehicle is doing alright is to check the battery charging guage on the truck it should sit between 14-16amps when it is charging. Anything lower than this is actually discharging the battery very slowly over time. RADIATOR PMD or PUMP MOUNTED DRIVER ALTERNATOR The interior is in excellent condition. Remember on the H1 has everything draped leather. These seats have been protected with wet/dry covers. The leather is clean and comfortable and looks fantastic. The trim is equally as stunning and is very glossy looking on this car. The floor looks great, the dash has no cracks whatsoever, the console and controls are also in excellent condition. You could not ask for nor find a nicer example of a H1 than this one that we have here for you today. The pictures speak volumes. As you can see this vehicle was maintained at every area. Custom base speaker box is built up in the back window behind back seat where the amps are located below. Alpine system was put into the whole car. The head unit is a custom Nakamichi that allows for the needed input and outputs of audio. Use carfax to check the vehicles history and this one passed with flying colors. This H1 has had 2 owners. The first was a Mr. Cook who was avid hunter and the second was an me who was loves off road adventure. I wish everyone kept their cars in such excellent and outstanding condition.
