Vehicle Detail
Here is a beautiful custom coachbuilt Lincoln Town Car convertible. These custom convertible were built in the late 1970's by a few coachbuilders. This car was built by SILCCO of Miami, Florida. SILCCO (Southern International Lincoln Custom Coach) was the only coachbuilder to produce these amazing 4 door convertibles. They built 2 door convertibles as well but the conversions for the 2 door was only $15,000 in addition to the price of the car. The 4 door conversion was an astonishing $25,000 extra!. That put the total cost of this car well over $40,000 in 1978. There were only 3 of these built for 1978 and only 12 built for the 3 years they were produced (77-79). I have seen 4 of these 4 doors come up for sale over the past ten years that I have owned this car and none were as beautiful as this one. It was the ultimate in luxury for 1978. The most noticeable option on this car is the 13 inch long continental kit that I had installed shortly after I purchased it. It was already the longest convertible produced (3 inches longer than the longest Cadillac) but to add insult to injury I added the extension to make the car a total of 246 inches (20 1/2 feet). The car is equipped with 15 inch 100 spoke wire wheels with custum spinners. The white wall tires are in excellent shape with 75% tread life left. These tires are 3.5 inch radial white walls. I removed the Lincoln hood emblem and installed a 1937 Lincoln Greyhound ornament for a more elegant look. I had dual exhausts with chrome tips installed 4 years ago. The steering wheel has a custom suicide knob for ease of turning and looks of course. The continental kit has an actual full size spare installed inside. I have installed a Pioneer CD player with 4 high end speakers. The stereo is mounted in a waterproof housing just in case you run into rain while driving. I do have the original stereo that I will give to the winning bidder. The car starts right up all the time and drives perfectly with no noises or clunks. It idles smoothly and accelerates quickly. The convertible top raises and lowers as it should. The top is covered by a snap on boot when it is in the down position. These tops that were used for these 4 door Lincolns as well as the 2 door models were the same tops used on the 1972 Ford LTD so parts are very easy to get. The top is in very nice condition except for a small tear at the bottom corner where it meets the rear window moulding on both sides. This does not affect anything and is not unsightly. To fill in the gap between the front and rear windows a removable post was developed to fill the space. They are removed and placed in the trunk when in the topdown mode. Overall the car is in excellent shape. The few items I would like to mention are: The air conditiong works with a charge but leaks out after a few months. The rear windows work but need alittle help to go up (down is fine). The rear door locks will not work from the power door lock switch (fronts are fine). When the car is first started after sitting for a while (when it is cool) it will send out a puff of smoke out the exhaust. It has done this from the day I have owned I it and it has not caused any problems. Everything else works as it should. I bought the car with 62,000 miles on it and have only driven it 13,000 miles in 10 years. Whether the car has only 75,000 or 175,000 is unknown. I have have all work receipts done for these past 10 years but no records for before I bought it. There are afew very small dings and small scratches but are not very noticeable (see pictures). I have an original sales catalog fro SILCCO. These were sent to many of the Lincoln Dealers across the country to the affluent areas to enable buyers of the new Lincolns have an option of buying a new convertible for 1978. I have represented my car very acurately. It is not a show car. It is to be driven on nice sunny days and stored inside a garage as I have for 10 years. I will not tolerate any bidders that don't pay so if you have no intension on buying or if you do not have the funds please DO NOT BID! Bidders with 0 feedback will be blocked. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the history or condition of this fine vehicle. You can call me at 928 505-5550 at my shop. On Mar-11-11 at 11:18:51 PST, seller added the following information: The car is originally a California car equipped with the 400 cubic inch motor. The smog pump has been disconnected.
