Vehicle Detail
For auction is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 122,594 miles that is being sold as is, where it is. Thiscar is a good candidate to become a good daily driver with a moderate amount of mechanical input. The vehicle is owned by young college girl, a friend of my son's. The body is in very good shape (ie, no rust) as the car is from Alabama, just a few parking lot dings, but no paint scatches. The engine runs very well and does not use oil, the car tracks down the road well and does not seem to have any suspention or steering problems (no clunking or rattling). The am/fm radio and cassette player all work fine. The interior is soft cloth and in fair condition, showing some wear but far from being what I would call "soiled and dirty". I would estmate the tires have 60% of wear left. What needs attention: the transmission leaks (but does not slip). It seems that at one time it was serviced and some of the mounting bolts were stripped, allowing the leak (about a quart every 3 weeks). I don't know why helex threads were not inserted and then new bolts inserted as this would allow the tranny to mounted back tightly as it should be, (doing this along with a new gasket would probably cure the leak all together). However, the transmission has never been driven with low fluid, the windshield has a crack near the bottom and the solvent squirter works intermitently, the power window motor on the drivers window operates slowly, license plate light not working, there is a slight exhaust leak at the exhaust "donut" gasket causing a muffled noise that decreases as the exhaust warms (this is a cheap and easy fix), and one of the interior door handles is cracked. The car is more than cable of being driven on short trips, but because of the tranny leak I would not take it on a long trip until the leak is fixed. All of these things listed are rather low on the "hard to fix" scale, and also relatively cheap, especially for someone with a little mechanical skills. Since her college schedule does not allow for the time needed for repairs, the car is being sold as another option for college transportation has been found. Bidding starts at $375 with no reserve. Thanks for looking.
