Super Clean 1992 BMW 318i Convertible. This is a unique vehicle for a unique buyer. I own a high end European auto repair facility and this car was towed in not running. We diagnosed it as a broken timing chain. The owner declined to not have it fixed and left the car for 6 months. I took ownership using a professional California Lien service and was planning on selling it for back storage. Then my father in law saw it and decided he wanted it to tow behind his motorhome. The following is the list of work we preformed on this vehicle to make it ready for my father in law: New Timing Chain -- New Timing Chain Guides -- New Head Gasket -- Reconditioned Cylinder Head -- All Valves Lapped -- New Radiator -- New Water Pump -- New Thermostat -- New front main seal -- R-134A Air Conditioning Retrofit -- New Muffler -- All new brakes (Pads and Rotors) -- New Coolant -- Complete Flush of Brake and Clutch Fluid -- New Spark Plugs - Oil Change. Basically anything we found that looked worn we replaced. My father in law was estatic with the performance of the car until he learned that no one makes a kit to mount a tow bar on a 1992 BMW. Now it is time to sell it to some other lucky buyer. With $4.00 a gallon gas coming, you cannot due better than this 30mpg+ convertible. Condition: Mechanically: Very solid. Completely RUST FREE. Clutch is smooth and car shifts beautifully. Suspension feels typically BMW (Great). Brakes are new. Tires are OK. Fronts and backs are different brands and are nothing special but they are adequate. My father in law was not going to replace them but if you are a really aggressive driver, I would probably recommend it but only for performance reasons. There are a couple of very small oil leaks, exactly what you would expect from a car of this age. Exterior: The exterior is a solid B+. Original paint. Very straight. Three small areas of damage. There is an area above the passenger rear wheel where it looks like some tire chains got loose and caused some chips in the paint. There are two small dents in the hood where it looks like someone closed the hood on some tools. The final item is a small dent in the black lower rocker where someone hit a curb or rock. Cannot see it without looking for it. Otherwise the car is straight and clean. Interior: The interior is clean and straight. It is the tan Vinyl that holds up way better than the leather. No rips in the seats. There are three or four very small rips in the interior panels, none bigger than a dime. All accessories work including Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Heated Seats, Air Conditioning. A/C blows cold. The stereo is missing. Any offer over $3500 I will install a new stereo. Convertible Top: The top is in overall good condition. It operates well and the rear window is clear and not cracked. The only issue with the top is some of the thread that holds the headliner to the top has degraded some and there are some very small pin holes where the thread was. We left the car outside for 5 months and the interior was very damp. After we fixed up the car, we left it outside in the rain for two days and it was dry. We are talking about very small holes that could easily be filled by the next owner but I will leave that to them. If I kept it I would drive it for a year or two and then put on a new Tan top.
