Vehicle Detail
I am selling my childhood racecar, which as i have gotten older has turned into an eyesore. I would like to blame the sticker application on someone else, but unfortunately i am responsible for it. However, i will take every opportunity to blame some of these styling decisions on youthful exuberance and lack of common sense. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time... On to the car. It is a '73 with a 2.0 and side shift transmission. The motor does not run, i had done a weber swap on it when i actually drove it and dad wanted the carbs for one of his projects some years back so those came off it and the last time it was driven was 2005 when i had planned to get it back on the road. Actually this has been in storage for... let me think... wow, i have had this in storage for the past 14 years. at $120 per month... ugh, thats depressing. I have come to the realization that i will never do a full resto on it so time to sell her and move on. Oh well, it was a hoot to drive when i was younger. Now for some details. I had competed pretty heavily in autocross events back in the early 90's and modified the car accordingly. Some modifications are better executed than others. Instillation of the harnesses is a prime example, its a good thing i was never in an accident otherwise id likely be dead. 15" Mahle rims, all straight except for the spare which is dented but useable. It makes a good spare. 23mm hollow Weltmeister torsion bars Koni externally adjustable shocks front and rear 160 lb rear springs on adjustable spring perches Weltmeister bronze pedal bushings Stainless steel brake lines 19mm 911 master cylinder Turbo tie rods Bump steer kit Weltmeister ball joints Tilton proportioning valve for rear brake bias Porsche alloy lug nuts on threaded wheel studs. Makes wheel changes sooo much easier than the crappy original 'lug bolts' that i hate with a passion. Porsche factory wheel locks. (i am pretty sure i can locate the key for them) Spare pedal cluster with Weltmeister bronze bushings Weltmeister polyurethane suspension bushings front and rear Autopower roll bar Stock seat, gutted 6 point harnesses 009 distributor and blue coil hydraulic lifters windage tray to control oil flow during hard cornering High volume oil pump lightened flywheel aftermarket pressure plate, i think it is a centerforce but it has been so long since i dealt with it i dont remember. I also have another set of Weltmeister suspension bushings plus some misc bearings that were laying in the spare. I think they are front wheel bearings for a previous 914 project but you will get to figure out what they fit. Its good to have spares right? lol. Spare clutch and speedometer cables. Again, this is my last remaining 914 so i have no need for them and you are the lucky winner of any 914 related items i find until the auction closes. The battery tray is solid although it has surface rust from being stored for the past decade plus. The "hell hole" under the battery and the suspension bulkhead are in good shape and solid. For all of that time it was stored (14 years) it was inside except for the past 6 months it has been outside in Hollister California so it has been rained on. The car is a southern california car. When i bought it it was from Palm Springs where i bought it from the original owners son. Oh, the vin listed is not accurate. I am at work and forgot to write it down. I'll update the listing with it later. Now for the bad. the windshield is cracked the clutch cable tube will need to be re-welded where it exits into the engine compartment. the motor will need to be rebuilt. It has been sitting outside with no carbs on it for 6 months. Or maybe not... who knows? you could slap some carbs on it and just run it as-is and see how far down the road it gets you. Seat belt shoulder harnesses could use a proper installation and not my 5 minute fix of a 4x12 piece of steel on the sheetmetal. the passenger door is off a 74. the stock door was missing when i bought it so i had a 74 door laying around. (i used to have a fleet of 914's so spare parts were plentiful) I have no idea where the engine lid went. I think it probably went to dad, it was one of the fully vented 916 style lids. So now the oil cooler is just laying on the motor. Speaking of motor, the sheet metal is off a 1.7, so i had to do some handiwork (ruin it) in order to get it to fit the 2.0. I think that's about it. I actually drove it to my storage container from home way back when, its about 60 miles so she is (was) more or less safe to drive on the street back in 96 or 97 before i pulled the carbs. All in all this was a really cool car and a blast to drive. Although it looks like some crazed teenager went nuts on it if you wanted to do some bodywork on it you would have a pretty solid car that handles like a gocart and will ear you more speeding tickets than you can shake a stick at. And you can shake a stick at a LOT of tickets, take it from me. Unfortunately i have come to the realization i am not going to be that person so there is no need to store it indefinitely. Besides, i need someplace to store my growing 928 collection. Payment due within 3 days of auction close. Paypal only I would like the car gone as soon as possible after the auction close but i am reasonable and will work with you to facilitate you getting it home. More or less dont expect me to sit on it for months, but as soon as you can get it the better. It will need to be towed or trailered. The auction is starting at $1, no reserve. It is time to let her go, so bid to win!
