Vehicle Detail
1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible You are bidding on a car with a great history. I bought this car on March 10, 1983. I soon discovered it’s original owner worked for my Father and had done computer repairs where I worked. Dad arranged a Sunday afternoon get together and invited Don and his wife, Donna to the house. The subject came up about their old Lincoln that they had been forced to sell when they moved into a senior community. My friend Larry was there and asked about the car, and shared the fact that someone he worked with had one just like it. After a few questions Larry asked if they remembered the license number and they did, it was their old car. Thanks to Larry, the car was soon mine. The car was sold new by Frank Laney Ford in Half Moon Bay, California. It was dealer traded from Marty Franich Lincoln Mercury in Watsonville, they are still in business. Donna’s Father was the Service Manager at Frank Laney, hence the sale. Larry was going to be in the Half Moon Bay area, so I asked him to stop into the dealership and get me a set of their dealer frames. He did and the person in the parts department remembered the car. He said it was the only Lincoln they ever sold. Frank Laney Ford closed shortly there after and became James Ford, they have been closed for years as well. The car still sports it’s original black plates, the Frank Laney frames are stored in a safe place. Many people have pointed out the ‘EAP’ on the plate is also Elvis’s initials! The original owners surprised me one day with the window sticker for the car. It was an expensive $7791.75. They also gave me a photo of the car when it was new, it also shows the Corvair they had at the same time. I was proud of the car after it received a 3rd place award at the LCOC national meet they had in San Jose in the mid-eighties. My real pleasure was there was a real jerk who had spent over $100,000 restoring a similar ‘65. He had flown in on his private jet and was super obnoxious. Earning a 3rd place with my car that I had done most of the work myself was all I needed. I have the judging sheets, an impressive 88 points! When I worked in downtown LA, it was fun to go to Nieman Marcus in Beverly Hills for lunch and the valets would ditch the newest Rolls left at the door and replace it with the Lincoln. The car runs and drives very well, it has lost some spunk, the 430 V8 engine has never been rebuilt. The odometer has turned over once. The original owners had the transmission rebuilt at approximately 90k. He made sure to tell me it was done right at a Ford dealer, with all genuine Ford parts. The top, windows and vents work, the A/C is ice cold and cycles properly. The AM-FM radio sounds good and the power antenna also works. It also has tilt wheel and hazard flashers. The car has been garaged all of it’s life and has always been in California. It is rust free and drives very solid. I’d never really thought of ever selling this car, but I’m ready to turn a new page in life, it’s time for someone else to love and enjoy this fantastic Lincoln. You are welcome to call for more information, Bob 661/809-4566. Thanks for your interest, Happy Bidding!!!! This is a NO RESERVE auction, however the car is being marketed on other venues and I reserve the right to end the auction early.
