Here is a nice 1979 Mercedes 300D. The odometer reads 131,000 miles but it doesn't work. the previous owner does not think it has over 150,000 on it, which is hardly broken in for these engines. The body is in very good shape, as well as the paint. The car has been repainted before, then it looks like the rear left quarter panel was repainted again at another time because it doesn't match all that well. I have noticed some body work on the passenger side doors that isn't perfect, but then I notice these things easier than most people because I do body work myself. Very little rust on this car, no holes. Rust is bubbling the paint up at the bottoms of the front fenders a little, and there is some rust in the trunk under the mat. Again, nothing is rusted through and it can just be treated with some POR and be fine. The spare tire is on the car right now, the fourth matching aluminum wheel is in the trunk. The tires are terrible. I've used them to drive it around the neighborhood, and wouldn't go any farther than that. Other than the tires, I have no doubt that this car would take any length of road trip reliably. It leaks a little oil and transmission fluid, really not much. The interior is in very good shape overall. The dash has no cracks anywhere and the leather is in great shape if not for a couple spots that look like cigarette burns. ON THAT NOTE, the previous owner may have smoked in the car, but I absolutely cannot smell anything. I cannot stand the smell of cigarettes and I am extremely sensitive to it, and I do not smell it in this car at all. Probably because it has sat in a garage with the windows down for a couple months. And on that note, the two driver side windows are down, and the switches are currently not working, or something. I just put new switch assemblies in it, and none of the windows want to budge. This leads me to believe, from experience with these cars, that it has a loose or dirty connection in the fusebox. I have not looked into this yet. The previous owner told me that the A/C works and blows cold, but only through the defrost vent. I forgot to verify this, but will do so and update this ad as soon as I can.
