Vehicle Detail
Nice car for someone with automotive repair skills (that's not me!). Zermatt silver with grey interior. Body is in very good shape with just a few light dings on the doors. Needs a good buffing and polishing. Car has virtually no rust, except a bit near the front wheels (1 1/2" spot). Interior is clean, but carpet needs shampooing (it cleans up very nicely). Front leather seats have many cracks and driver's seat has a tear. Rear leather seats are in very good shape. Headliner needs replacement. Wood near glove box has cracks to surface coating. Rear power window on driver's side does not work. One tail-light is cracked (broken pieces in glovebox). AC doesn't work, but may just need recharging (blowers are fine and it worked prior to last summer). Climate controls may not work properly. Dashboard trip computer display doesn't work. Car has approximately 155,000 miles, but odometer and speedometer do not work. Anti-lock brake light stays on all the time. Radio works, but tape deck doesn't. Front tires are very worn and need replacement. Car was running until recently when it was in the garage for a new alternator and they found a leak in the master cylinder. These repairs were not completed. Six months ago, the car was driven from southern Indiana to Milwaukee without any problems. For the past 8-10 years, there has been a problem with the alternator belt squealing, loosening, and then failing to recharge the battery. The car's latest mechanic thought the problem had been with the alternator all along, even though it tested okay (until the last check when they decided it needed replacement). As this has been a second car, it has not been driven very much, especially with the recurrent belt problem. This is a beautifully designed car and a pleasure to drive, but I cannot continue to maintain it. It needs to go to someone who can work on it themselves. My brother owned it for many years before I got it and he maintained it perfectly. I don't have his maintenance records, but my records are intact. This is the perfect car for someone who wants to own a classic Audi and likes tinkering with cars. Engine is great, probably needs a tune-up. It was idling rough upon starting. Exhaust system seems fine. It has a new battery. It may have a transmission issue - I'm not sure -- it occasionally hesitates when shifting from park to reverse. I think everything else works fine and that I've covered all the problems. I hope someone out there is willing to repair and restore it.
