Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very rare 1966 Fiat 1100D station wagon. I am the second owner, and the car comes with a folder of documentation from the original owner. This car is nearly rust free (only surface rust on the chassis), having spent most of its life in Florida and North Carolina. The car can be enjoyed as-is, or would make a great restoration candidate. It will make you the star of the show at any Italian car show (Concorso Italiano), or would make a neat display or delivery vehicle for an Italian car dealer (Fiat, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, or Lamborghini). It could even be a Barrett Jackson candidate! The car comes with a clear Michigan title (these are marked Mileage Exempt for historic vehicles), and is currently licensed with a Michigan Classic Vehicle license plate. Body Exterior/Interior: One repaint in the original beige color. Paint shines very nicely. Chrome is in good shape. No missing pieces. Glass is all good. Original owner had the seats reupholstered in the original color and style, with a deep burgundy vinyl. Seats and door panels are in great shape, as is headliner. The original beige paint on the doors and instrument panel is also in great shape. The carpet is in good shape, very presentable but showing minor wear. Instrument panel was never cut for a radio. Mechanical: Odometer shows 70,704 miles, and I believe this is accurate. The tires are in new condition. The engine is an 1100cc 4 cylinder making about 50hp, and the transmission is a 4 speed column shift. The work I have done to the engine is as follows: Spark Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap, Points, Rotor, Ignition Wires, Resistor, Coil, Battery, Air Filter, Oil Filter, and fresh oil. The car ran great until the fuel pump went bad, and has sat a couple of years while I searched for a fuel pump (did not want to convert it to electric fuel pump). A brand new fuel pump, still in the box, comes with the car. I've had trouble engaging reverse (believe the linkage needs adjusted), the four foward gears work fine. I have driven this car as fast as 50 mph, and am quite certain it would go 60 mph on a clear day with a little tailwind. Model/Rarity: The Fiat 1100D was in production from 1962 until 1966. It was replaced by the 124 model. The tooling was sold to an Indian company called Padmini, and the car was produced as the Padmini Premier from 1964 until 2000; it is considered the car that put India on wheels. Very few Fiat 1100D were sold in the US, making it an extremely rare sight. In fact, in several trips to Italy I never saw one there either. About the only place you will see an 1100D (actually a Padmini Premier) is when you are watching a movie scene shot in India.
