This nice example of a 1968 Volvo P1800 is offered for your consideration today, We’ll start off with a little history, and all the good that this Swedish classic sports car has to offer, and then move on to the few negative points. My wife bought this 1968 Volvo P1800 in 1973. Never suspecting that we would still be driving it in 2011! Through many trips up and down the California coast from Santa Cruz to Santa Monica it ALWAYS got her where she was going and home. Everyone loved this car and lots of them wanted it, but my wife would just not give it up. Due to a recent surgery she is no longer able to drive the car, so the time has come to find someone who will love and care for it --a special person. I've been driving the car around town every week and it runs great. I believe this is key to longevity, not letting cars sit for months. This car has been stored in our garage since taking possession, and the odometer shows 99K with the odometer not working, so exact millage is unknown. The car is available locally and we reserve the right to end the auction early. The car starts up nicely without any hesitation. Tires, and brakes are good. Has the reliable Weber conversion, with electronic conversion ignition. All body panels matchup, and line up nicely, both doors close with a solid sound and feel. Frame is solid without rust and has original undercoating. Interior lights and gauges work, along with headlights and wipers. Car drives straight down the road, and brakes to a nice straight stop. Four cylinder 1.8 liter engine with a 4 speed transmission plus electronic overdrive on the steering column. No leaks on the driveway or garage floor, does not overheat. Weber conversion and aftermarket electronic ignition. I also have some spare parts including an original back seat (in black) and driver’s side wind vent and window assembly. Okay moving on to the negatives. This is the perfect car to completely restore while you drive it. It’s a nice solid straight car making an excellent candidate for a restoration. To make this a show car I would redo the interior, dash, seats, and carpet. The exterior although straight does have isolated rust on the lower rocker panels, about the size of my palm on each side of the car, and a few bubble around the lower rear fender lip, and that’s it. Trunk, floor pans, and underneath the car, engine compartment seem to be all rust free. Paint is fine for a driver, but is oxidized around the roof and hood. A fresh coat would do wonders.
