1999 540iT I'm selling my beautiful (well it is to me, eye of the beholder), 1999 540iT with 151,xxx miles. I just moved to North Carolina from Florida, at the beginning of December and drove this bad boy all the way. The 4.4L V8 engine rides like a dream on the highway and has tons of muscle for around town. I bought it approximately six months ago, with the intention of spending some time and $$$ TO MAKE IT PERFECT, alas, I needed something a little bigger and just bought myself an X5. Now I need the $$$, so I'm selling this rare wagon. This 540 is not perfect, but it looks very cool and runs very strong. This is a great car for the BMW fanatic who wants something to make special and unique. You can absolutely drive it every day while you fix her up. (I did) The paint is ok, probably a 5 out of 10, looks great from a couple of yards away, but you can see a few scratches when you get close up. There is one little, tiny door ding in the passenger-side front door. The typical parking lot door ding, about the size of a dime. Interior is about the same, 5 out of 10. There is a lot of wear to the front seats, but not ripped up, just worn. I moved to North Carolina to start a car business, but I am only in the process of applying for my license and this is a PRIVATE SALE. This is MY PERSONAL CAR. AGAIN ..... THIS IS A PRIVATE SALE .... THIS IS MY PERSONAL CAR. Since I bought it: I put on new tires (about 2500 miles ago), changed the valve cover gasket and grommets with FACTORY OEM BMW parts changed the oil (synthetic) had the timing chain checked and the plastic guides for it replaced replaced the driver's-side rear seat window glass and regulator (FACTORY OEM PARTS) covered all interior wood trim with a carbon fiber cloth material. used a 3M adhesive spray and a hot glue gun, so it will last a long time.What it needs: (other than what you can see in the photos) small oil drip. it has a very slow leak that drops two or three drips after you drive it. I haven't had to replace any oil since leaving ft myers at the end of November, so it's not real bad. mechanic thinks its the oil lines from the oil filter housing to the block. they have O-rings that go bad with age. srs airbag light is on at the moment. it will go on and off intermitently. the passenger sensor was replaced and it was off for a while. I'm going to be changing some fuses out, because i think that this may be the issue. driver's-side rear seat window needs to be tinted headlight covers could be buffed-out to make them clear, the driver's- side has some condensation the radio works, but the head unit may need to be replaced. the clock controls on it don't work, so you can't set the time and you can't hear cd's. it has a 6-disc changer in the back, which you can control, but you can't hear it. this may also be a result of the fuses, so look for an update after tomorrow. I That front fender IS NOT DENTED, it's just the light and trees. The carpet is in good condition, just needs a good detail! I have factory heavy duty rubber floor mats for it. I put them in the X5 because of the snow, but I'll include them with this 540. Carbon fiber TRIM AND AFTERMARKET cup holder. The old cup holders were really weak and broke easily. This is one solid piece of plastic that doesn't fold away. It looks better and works better than the factory ones. One blemish on the interior is that A/C button on the right missing. That button controls the "fresh or recycled" air, but there is another control for this on the steering wheel. The other button above it was also missing, but I found it on eBay for $5. The A/C and heat work great in this car. Plenty of room in the back. The rear seats fold down and there is a handy cargo cover. The floor in the back slides out and makes a shelf. This is really strong, you could sit on it. Rubber around windshield. This is very common for 5-series before about 2004. It can be replaced for very little. I've done this on a sedan. The rubber piece costs maybe $30 from BMW and then you get a glass guy to remove the existing rubber and put the new one in. I was planning on replacing the entire windshield and the rubber. The windshield doesn't have any cracks or big chips, but it's weathered and kind of freckled. This is a close up of the driver's door. There's a small piece of the rubber which is broken off and the pillar needs to be touched up. There's more rubber on the inside of the door, so it doesn't leak. The rubber at the bottom of the door, inside the sill, around the kick plate , is also broken off and should be replaced. This is a scratch on the rear pillar on the passenger side. Somebody did a really bad touch-up job on it. It can fixed without repainting the entire car. I was trying to get my touch up guy down in Ft Myers to do it before I left, by just didn't have the time. He looked at it and said he could paint just the pillar and blend it. Since I got to Asheville, this is the gas mileage.. In Ft Myers, I was getting 17.9, but it's a lot flatter there. Great thing about this car is the power. You're really glad to have all of that power on the highway here, when it starts to climb up into the hills, especially when there are some big trucks around.
