Up for auction is a 1991 Peugeot 405 mi16 One of 2,200 Peugeots sold in the US in 1991, just before Peugeot pulled out of the US market for good. The car needs work but it is worth it. Its clean body and rarity make it worth saving.This car is a piece of history and would be a unique ride for anyone. Known history: My father purchased this car from an elderly lady about a couple years ago. I then bought the car from him. The car originally belonged to the lady's late husband. When he died a few years after buying the car new, she never drove the car and it sat in her garage until I bought it. This means the car sat for over a decade. In the years she lost the title. This was no problem for me because in Vermont you do not need a title for a car older than 15 years, only a bill of sale. If your state is similar to Vermont then you can restore the car to drive. If your state requires a title this car is being sold to you as parts only because a title will not be given with the car. When the car was turned over after the many years of sitting, it would run it only fired. After trying to get it running it eventually started not firing. Then while it was being turned over it seized and will only make a clicking metal noise. I suspect that this is due to the dried out timing belt slipping. This is no guarantee but I believe the car simply needs to be retimed. Unfortunately I do not have the time to fix it and need the money. Exterior: The car is red in color. The paint is in overall decent condition. There is some weather cracking on the upper quarter panels where the paint dried out and formed fractures and the clear coat is coming off the top of the spoiler as shown in the picture. Also shown in the pictures are the only rust spots I could find, two spots smaller than a dime. There is also a crease on the bottom of the passenger’s side rear door. The sunroof was covered in caulk by the previous owner, I assume to stop leaking. Any of the brown crud shown in the pictures is pollen that will was right of. The car hasn’t been cleaned probably since the old man drove it. The trim is faded and needs to be re dyed, but it is all there. All emblems and lights are crack free. All windows are good. Stock rims are in great shape No rust found underneath the car. Interior: · Interior is in great shape. Full black leather · No tears or burn holes. · Stock cassette player is included but not installed · Stock floor mats, either stock brown carpet or faded black I’m not sure · One speaker cover is not attached but is present · Gas gauge and rpm meter are confirmed to work. Others simply haven't been tested. I have heard of someone in NY that used ths paper to get a new title. I am NOT garunteeing this to work and you should check with your local DMV if your interested. I looked it over again and saw the pinch welds are a bit bent up from improper jacking and one spot has some surface rust.
