The car is located in Pollock Pines, California 95726. That is one hour East of Sacramento. The car will need to be picked up here, I will not ship it. I will, however, make it convenient for your shipper to pick it up here at my home. It must be paid in cash or with direct wire transfer. The balance must be paid within 7 days of the close of the auction. The car must be picked up within 10 days of the close of the auction. After that a $10/day storage fee will be charged. Street legal single seater mid engine tube frame formula type car. I built this car 4 years ago. Most of the tubing came from a stock car chassis. It is set up to be powered by a VW liquid cooled engine. Any liquid cooled 4 cylinder engine will bolt to the transmission which is from a 1986 Turbo Diesel Jetta. You could bolt up a modern TDI turbo diesel or a 1.8T or 2.0T turbo gas motor for some amazing speed. Or any 4 cylinder Rabbit/Jetta/Fox/Golf, etc. engine from the 1970's to today. Included in the sale are two 1.6 litre non turbo diesel engines. One is from a 1982 VW Pickup. It was rebuilt but lost a freezed plug. It turns over and has compression but might have internal damage. The other is a 1985 Jetta 1.6 diesel that is a good runner but has about 220K miles on it. I built this car when gas was $5/gallon and was planning to drive use it for my 80 mile/day commute. I drove this car one time at low speeds in 2007. At that time it had a turbo diesel engine which I later sold. Technical Specifications: 1. Front suspension is from a Porsche 914. Adjustable torsion bars, lower A arms and struts. Front rotors are drilled for 4x100 lug pattern. 2. Rack and Pinion steering from a Porsche 914. 3. Rear suspension is the modified front suspension from a 1982 Rabbit Pickup. Adjustable coil over shocks. 4x100 lug pattern. 4. 5 speed transmission from a 1986 Jetta. Left hand shifting. 5. 1986 Jetta radiator side mounted. 6. Aluminum fuel tank. Probably 10 gallons or so. 7. Grant steering wheel. 1986 Jetta gage cluster. 8. I estimate the weight of the car to be 900-1000 pounds without driver. 8. The majority of the frame is 1 3/4 inch mild steel tubing, not sure if it is ERW or DOM. The main frame rails are 3"x2" mild steel. The rear section of the car (suspension, engine cradle, etc) unbolts, kind of like a Wells Coyote. I did all the welding and fabrication myself. I'm a high school math teacher, not a welder, but I have been welding on my hobbies for 20 years. The welds are not award winning but they are strong, done with a MIG machine with Argon. My welds have passed SCCA inspections in the past. I believe this car could easily be registered in an SCCA or NASA racing class as a Formula car or Sports Racer. I am fairly certain that the tubing is large enough for any road racing class. 9. Included with the car is a complete Miata front suspension, spindles, rotors, calipers, A arms.. Although the 914 stuff works well the strut mounts stick up pretty high, as you can see. I was planning to go double A Arm eventually. Included in the sale is a Salvaged Title for a 1986 diesel Jetta, which is smog exempt in California. My plan was to register it as that and I do have a couple of steel VIN's from that Jetta that are included. You should make your own decision on what is the best way to register it if you plan to use it on the road. The car sits on a decent set of 16" Borbet. Front tires are 205/40/16 and are brand new. Rear tires are larger and have little tread. What it would take to make it street legal: 1. Install an engine. 2. Hook up the speedometer. 3. Wire the lights. Install front turn signals. It has rear lights and headlights. 4. Windshield. It comes with a windshield but it was not made from laminated glass so you might need to change it. 5. Install seat belts and mount the seat. 6. Check with your state laws as to body requirements (I believe that fenders are not required on cars weighing less than 1500 pounds in most states, like a T Bucket, for example). 7. Build whatever type of body you want. To go racing: 1. Determine what class you want to run. 2. Install an engine of the appropriate size. VW liquid cooled 4 cylinders were made as small as 1488 cc and as large as 2.0 litres. There are some diesel racing classes these days which would be pretty cool also. 3. Install a racing harness. 4. Mount the seat. 5. Install a fire system. 6. Get the car inspected and certified. Please ask any questions and I will try to answer them as promptly as I can. Please resolve any issues you might have before bidding. No reserve auction.
