These companies generally use bonded professional drivers who pick up your vehicle at our facility and drive it to your home location, or one you specify. You will generally pay a set fee (which may or may not require the cost of return transportation for the driver), and for all fuel or other vehicle expenses incurred during transportation. The advantages are usually lower cost and often quicker pick up and delivery times than other methods. The disadvantages include additional miles on placed your vehicle, normal exposure to road hazards in transit, and more limited delivery range. For short intrastate distances or economical cross-country shipping, an open carrier works well. Advantages to this type of shipping are relatively low cost for longer distance deliveries and no additional mileage put on your vehicle. Enclosed carriers offer protection from weather elements or road debris damage; eliminating the exposure of your vehicle during transit. Also, NO additional mileage is placed on your vehicle. While this is a clear advantage, the disadvantage of enclosed carrier transport is greater cost. However, for high-value, rare, or exotic vehicles, (especially convertibles,) we highly recommend this type of transport. Plus, your vehicle will generally arrive in the same highly detailed exterior condition as when it left our facility. It's important to note that many "shipping" companies are simply brokers and do not actually own their own carriers. These brokers charge a fee, often called a "deposit", to book your transport, and you will be required to pay for the actual shipping cost with a cashier's check at the time of your vehicle's delivery. When accepting a very low bid (one that is well below others), make sure you understand ALL costs and terms, and get a timetable for delivery first! Ask the carrier if the bid is binding. Often, drivers will give preference to higher cost deliveries once their carriers fill up, and you may find that your pick up and delivery is delayed by a substantial amount of time. A shipping broker may even suggest that you offer to increase your bid in order to secure quicker pick up and delivery.
