Vehicle Detail
I'm selling (very reluctantly) my 1970 Subaru Samvar Van. If you are not familiar, the Samvar Van was originally sold in the US for only 2 years, 1969-70. Only a handful were sold here and even fewer remain today. Restored running examples typically sell for $10-15,000, I believe I am pricing this fairly with a LOW RESERVE. If you are a Subaru or microcar enthusiast, dont let this one get away! First of all, the van is not running and the engine and transmission are missing. It is a perfect candidate for a multitude of engine swaps, from small 3 cyl. turbo-diesels, to Subaru Justy or flat-4 motors. Many different engines will fit. You could easily build a 50-80 mpg commuter or delivery van for around town. It could also be easily converted to electric power. On the plus side- the van is mostly complete. All of the chrome trim is straight and in good condition. All windows are operable and not broken, except the windshield. Windshields are still available new. all doors open, latch, and close. All wiring is intact, not crusty or broken. the floorpan is solid and has no rust-through. The exterior has a multitude of small dents, none difficult to repair. The roof is the worst and will need patching in some areas, or the roof could easily be replaced with a sliding ragtop. Though not shown in the picture, I have the original side mirrors and wipers in excellent condition. The front suspension snd steering are both tight and work well. No frozen fasteners, the van is attached to the frame with only six bolts and comes off for easy access. To properly restore it, it should be stripped completely and media blasted. From there I think anyone would see it is not a difficult restoration, it is a very simple vehicle with very few parts. The van is VERY small...only about 10 feet long and four feet wide, and thus very easy to transport. As is, it weighs less than 800 lbs. I think it may fit it the back of a full size extended cab pickup, but I have never tried this. The van is currently in secure storage. If you need time to arrange shipping or to come pick it up, I am flexible as long as it is within a reasonable amount of time. On the minus side- all interior panels are missing, but since they are all flat, a good upholstery shop could easily make them. Most of the lenses are broken, but reproductions are readily available. All in all, a very desireable piece of microcar (and Subaru) history at a very reasonable price!
