Vehicle Detail

Since its introduction in 1986 to the currently in production seventh generation, the Honda VFR has been known to be the best all-around sportbike ever made. Even though the current VFR is an amazing piece of work the 2001 VFR is considered by some to be the last “True” VFR. This is because the 2001 was the last model year to have the gear-driven cams that were found on the racing bikes of the day. Those gears whirring are one of the two things that give the VFR its distinctive sound. It’s unmistakeable once you know it. An owner of an ’86 to ’01 VFR can hear another coming down the street just from the whirr. The corporate line from Honda as to why they stopped producing the gear-driven cams and went to the V-Tech was “efficiency” but I believe the general consensus, which is that this jewel of an engine was just more expensive to produce. The other thing that makes this bike sound like it does is VF in the VFR... It’s the amazing V-4 engine. This Honda V-4 is a true piece of art. It has low down torque that an inline engine can’t touch. You can roll on the throttle from 3000 rpm and it just starts to pull... and the pulling becomes more urgent as the revs climb. The party really starts at 7000rpm and continues all the way to the 12,000rpm redline. That same great V-4 is arguably the most reliable sport bike engine over created. If you check online you read about VFR’s with HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of miles without a rebuild! How often do you even hear about an inline four with over 50,000 miles? The sound of this engine has been compared to a small-block Chevy but I think that it sounds even better. The VFR is fuel injected (to carbs to clog) and starts on the first crank even if it has been sitting in 30ºF weather for two weeks. As for other cool details about this model VFR: -A linked braking system that activates the front and rear brake even if you just activate one. This reduces front end dive and makes for safer braking. -A single-sided swing arm which shows off the back wheel -A removable matched seat cowl to give the bike solo seat look -A digital display for the fuel, odometer and outdoor & engine temperature This bike has less than 23,000 miles which according to many VFR owners is “Just getting broken in”. I am the second owner and I have owned it since it had 14,700. The guy I bought it from was a middle-aged bike enthusiast and a clean freak. When I bought the bike from him it looked like it was just taken out of the crate. It was immaculate I couldn’t believe that he put 14K on it and the mechanic who inspected it at my local dealer said that he couldn’t believe it either. That’s why I paid a bit more for it that I was planning to spend. I’m also an adult rider and I have had my license for 20 years. As for condition: This bike has never been down and has NO dents, road rash, scratches, cracks, rips, etc. (beware of the bikes that have decals missing or has new parts on just one side). The oil has been changed at least every 3K miles. The tires (Michelin Pilot Power CT2) are both in great shape and only have a couple of thousand of miles on them (if that). The battery is new this year. This bike is largely unmolested, (mostly stock... because Honda knows their stuff!) except for a Holeshot Performance exhaust canister. I put this on because it was about half the weight of the stock pipe, it looked better and it gives the bike an even nicer growl (but it is still reasonably quiet). The rear fender has also been slightly bobbed for a bitter look. The big dangling rear license tag light has been replaced with LED bolt that shine white light on the plate only (tasteful and purposeful, not for effect). I have the matched rear seat cowl for the bike which can be put on for a sporty solo seat look. This is a great time to ride in the mid-Atlantic. No bugs, great scenery, and decent weather. And, if you ride when there is a football game on TV the roads are all but empty. Now is by far the best time to buy a motorcycle. I would be selling this for more money if it were March. If you already have a sweet VFR, this is the bike to get your friend on. Let them know! Now! That said, no joyrides (seriously... don’t show up without cash and a license expecting to go for a ride), no dreamers (“I just want to look at it because I want to buy a bike in a few years... if and only if my wife and/or mom says that it’s okay”) and no, I won’t ship it (you can ship it... After you put cash in my hand and I sign the title over). And sorry, no trades or partial trades as I already have another bike... and a car... and a truck. I can afford to keep this bike so I’m not in a panic to sell it. But at the same time if someone else can love this bike and enjoy it I’d rather see it on the road doing what it is made to do. I’d pay happily pay over $4000 for this bike (if I didn't already have a new bike) That said, the bike is offered here for LESS. This bike feels so tight and new and is so reliable it is a bargain at that price. You could buy a lot of run of the mill bikes for this price or you could have a modern classic. Don’t bother low-balling me. This ebay ad is set up to reject lowball offers so I won't even see them (so don't take it as rude that I didn't reply to your offer for $2500 and a Home Depot coupon). I do not have any interests in trades... Unless you have something that is worth over $10K... And in that case, just go sell whatever you have and then buy this for the asking price. I don’t have to sell it and I would rather have a second bike than let it go for for less than I feel that it’s worth. LOCAL PICK UP ONLY I WILL NOT SHIP! Cash or Cashiers Check delivered to me at my local bank only. Yes, I know the last few paragraphs make me sound like an unreasonable seller. I’m not. I’m just trying to save both of us time and hassle.
