Vehicle Detail

FOR SALE: If you viewed this auction last week, please read again as details have changed. 196x 230 SL--I am not sure of the exact year, but am waiting to hear back from the MB Classic Center in Irvine. This is a PROJECT CAR, in rough condition although the body is pretty straight, but has some bondo. There is NO TRANSMISSION in the car, but it was originally a manual transmission. I will include an engine from a 230 SL that has been pulled, but is locked up. Therefore the car is being sold as a PARTS CAR only, WITHOUT A TITLE. If you would like a title, (for Texas) this is my understanding of the process: You need to get a bond on the vehicle: submit a pencil tracing of the VIN; provide the year, model, and make; pay the standard presumptive value (80% of the blue book value times 1.5) and pay 10% of this figure to the bonding agency. Finally, a letter will need to be obtained from the Bonding company that issues a surety bond to guarantee obtaining a title for the vehicle. Almost all chrome pieces are present and many have been pulled and re-chromed, but there are tiny pits on some. Bumpers and SOFT TOP FRAME are included. Bumpers are in 4 sections. 3 out of 4 have been re-chromed, but have tiny pits. The 4th is pretty rusty. However, there is NO HARD TOP. Wheels on the car are the bundt cake style from a later SL. The interior seat covers and door panel covers are not OEM, but the guts appear to be (Seat frames and door cardboard). Spare and jack are included, but jack is pretty rusted. Brake lights are period correct for an SL imported to the US--no amber in them, just red and white, but there are cracks. Headlights are broken in half. I have an additional 30 plus photos on OFOTO of the car (chrome, wheel wells, undercarriage, under the back where a kinder seat/back seat goes, and soft top frame)--I tried to get under the car, but did not have a lift, so it was the best I could get. If you would like to view these, send me your e-mail address and I will send you the link/invite to view them. Buyer is responsible for towing and shipping. However, I am happy to assist in the process. Please bid with confidence as I have been a member of E-Bay with the same account for more than 10 years and have a 100% score. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 415 902 8687. Thanks and good luck! On Nov-22-10 at 21:35:28 PST, seller added the following information: GOOD NEWS! Engine is NOT locked up--it turns, but I am not sure about the compression. No grill on the car.
