Vehicle Detail

1974 Volkswagen Type 181 Thing Mostly Restored & Modified + Accessories & Spare Parts Everything included is in good to excellent condition. This vehicle has been almost completely restored, with the exception of some minor bodywork and a new paint job, and has been modified to improve safety, entertainment, security, operation, and appearance. Accessories and spare parts are also included as part of a package deal. This vehicle package is being sold AS IS, and no other warranties exist for it, apart from a manufacturer's warranty on the alternator. Picture Dates & Times The dates and times embedded in the pictures are not all accurate. However, all of the pictures were taken between the 23rd and the 28th of October 2010. The state of everything pictured remains as it is pictured, except for a few more miles having been recorded by the odometer. Towed Mileage This vehicle has been towed cross-country approximately 5,000 mi., which is included in the “mileage” figure. Alternator Warranty The alternator is under warranty through the manufacturer, Bosch, until September 2011. The mechanics’ garage receipt for the part’s installation is required for the warranty and will be provided to the buyer. Vehicle History I have owned this vehicle since 2007. Since I’ve owned it, the vehicle has not been involved in any accidents. It was only minorly damaged otherwise, and these damages were completely repaired. The already loose passenger's side intake duct detached when someone sat on it, but was reattached with new rivets. The tailpipes were bent, one pipe detached, and the muffler was severely dented when someone stood on the pipes, but the whole assembly was replaced with new parts, though the new muffler was dented before installation. No other damages were incurred by the vehicle during my ownership. I have records of all servicing, restoration, modifications, and repairs that have been performed on this vehicle since I have owned it and will provide them to the buyer. The previous owner was my father, who bought it in 1982, so this vehicle has been family-owned for 28 years. While my father owned it, my brother collided the vehicle into a power pole guide wire on the passenger’s side of the front end. Bodywork and repainting was done on the front apron and hood, and the vehicle frame remains slightly bent. I know of no other accidents the vehicle was involved in during my father’s ownership of it. There were two owners of the vehicle prior to my father, but all that is known about their ownerships is that the first owner mainly kept the vehicle parked at his vacation home and the second owner owned the vehicle very briefly. Paint Job The current paint-job consists of an old, professionally repainted coat touched-up by myself three years ago and last week to protect exposed metal and cover primer-only-covered areas. The resulting overall paint-job consists of three shades of green, giving the vehicle, as some have described it, a “camouflaged” appearance. Potential Tow-It-Yourself Option This vehicle can be connected to a 2” tow-ball using the included towing assembly for pickup, and I would gladly help you hook-up for towing. VIN *Vehicles built prior to 1981 are not required by federal law to have a vehicle identification number (VIN). This vehicle does not have one, so the 10-digit chassis number takes the place of a VIN for registration and insurance purposes. Actual Mileage *The odometer reading in this vehicle is NOT CORRECT. The original odometer/speedometer/fuel gauge unit was replaced with a used Volkswagen unit to correct speedometer and fuel gauge issues. Since odometer tampering is illegal, the replacement odometer could not be adjusted to reflect accurate mileage. An accurate mileage figure can be calculated by adding 65,632 to the current odometer reading. The current actual mileage is 76,780. The receipt from the mechanics’ garage that replaced the unit, which indicates the odometer readings of the original and replacement units, is pictured and will be provided to the buyer as proof. Title *Vehicles built prior to 1975 are not required by Alabama law to have a title. This vehicle does not have one.
