Vehicle Detail
1963 Ford Thunderbird M-Code Convertible THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION, SO SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE! I am selling my rare 1963 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. It is one of 22 '63 T-bird convertibles built with the "M-code" option, named for the "M" in the VIN number denoting the factory high performance engine upgrade. There are only 17 '63 M-code convertibles known to exist today. The car was documented by William Wonder, the famous Thunderbird restoration expert and entered into the Thunderbird Registry on January 21, 2003. The registry number is 3982. The 390-cubic inch, 340-horsepower 6V High Performance Engine was referred to as the "340-hp 390-cu.in. Sports V-8" in the Ford Buyer's Digest of New Car Facts for 1962. It was optional in 1962 and 1963 at an extra cost of $242.10. The engine has 3 double-barrell holley carburetors (also known as a triple deuce, tri-carb, or tri-power) and dual exhaust (which was normally on the '61-'62 T-birds but not the '63). The engine has a really throaty roar when you open up the throttle! This engine option also included an Engine Dress-up Kit that included these chromed items: air cleaner assembly with Thunderbird insignia, brake master cylinder, fuel log, oil breather cap, oil dipstick handle, power steering reservoir, radiator cap and surge (overflow) tank, valve covers that are embossed with "THUNDERBIRD", and valve cover bolts. This vehicle also includes a power top that opens and closes flawlessly, swing-away steering wheel, power brakes, power steering, 3-speed automatic transmission, and original Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. This excellent driver is an older restoration finished in its original color of Heritage Burgundy (X) with a black interior (56) and black top. The driver side door has paint imperfections in the form of specs on the upper part which are noticeable when viewed up close. The inside door panels show signs of wear and the vinyl on the armrests are cracked due to elbow pressure. The vehicle has undergone a recent mechanical overhaul including rebuilt carburetors, a re-cored radiator, rebuilt torque converter, rebuilt brake booster, new solid state convertible top relays, and new radial tires. The oil, transmission, and brake fluids were recently changed as well and a mechanic checked the car out and confirmed that it is safe and solid and even offered to purchase the car for himself! All the mechanical and electrical components work flawlessly with the exception of the clock and the radio. The original owners manual is also included. The car does not come with the black california plates, but I think they look great and we can arrange a deal if you would like them with the car. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! Please contact Matt with any questions: (818) 648-6559, Pacific Standard Time. Shipping For those who wish to have the car sent by freight, I will be happy to assist the shipping company with scheduling, etc. Payment I accept cashier's check, money order, or cash in person. The winning bidder must contact me within 48 hours of auction close. I require a $1000 deposit within 3 days of auction close, and full payment within 7 days.
