This 1997 BMW R850R has a sentimental history which is too complicated to explain in this listing. Basically, it was purchased new by an elderly gentleman who was diagnosed with a terminal illness. After his passing, his daughter kept the bike in a climate controlled garage until she sold it to me in 2001. I kept it as a stored motorcycle until this summer, when I decided to recommission it for someone to use and enjoy. 2500 original miles are all that's on this rare example (Most R's are 1050 or 1100's). Despite the fact that this motorcycle was properly stored, including fogging the engine, there's just no way to avoid some deterioration over time. As a result, we went through this bike with a fine toothed comb and addressed any and all issues found. Included in its recommissioning were the installation of new gaskets, altenator belt, fuel pump and filter, fuel injectors,gas tank filler neck, stainless steel brake lines and numerous other service items. A complete tune-up was performed, including changing the oil and filter 3 times to assure it was starting out life again with no residual oil left inside. All other fluids (Brake, transmission and rear drive) were also changed. The entire wiring harness was removed, contacts cleaned or replaced and re-wrapped in new wire loom. Finally, new tires and battery were installed. This motorcycle may be a 1997, but it looks and runs like it's a 2010! Cosmetically, the bike is nearly perfect. I dropped a box on the front fender, giving it a small scratch, otherwise the paint is flawless. The seat is excellent, as is the chrome and other frame paint and wheels. Included with the bike is a set of Ventura Luggage, which has never been used. This system features a variety of interchangeable racks and a luggage (Which also doubles as a backpack) allowing a limitless number of configurations. You can use large or small racks and grab bars, with or without the bag, to create whatever you need for your ride. These are an Australian product and you won't find a higher quality system anywhere! This bike would make a perfect daily rider or weekend tourer. I'd keep it myself, but my wife and I are taking off in our RV for the next six months and I'd hate to have it sit again. This was a ton of fun to restore and the winning bidder will not be disappointed!
