This car rides and performs like new, a great example of Mercedes excellent build quality with these cars. It returns 33-34 MPG with about 75% highway cruising at 75 mph or so, great! No rattles, squeaks, odd vibrations, etc. A quite, firm, controlled ride and good performance from the engine and transmission. The transmission was replaced with a low mileage used transmission at 260k and has been performing flawlessly since. No slipping or flaring between shifts, no delays when shifting into drive or reverse, just crisp, quick shifts. The car has had regular oil and filter changes every 5k miles with Rotella 15w40 synthetic oil. The AC is R134a from the factory and blows cold. The evaporator was replaced in 2005 and the AC system was serviced and a leaking line replaced this past summer. Everything works on the car with the exception of the power antenna (new mast needed most likely), the cruise control and the outside temperature gauge (intermittent).All four shocks, along with front ball joints, tie rods, center link, and idler bushing were replaced 30k miles ago. The belt tensioner, shock and belt were replaced 20k miles ago. The vacuum pump was replaced 25k miles ago. All four tires have maybe 5k miles on them. The front and rear brake pads were also changed 5k miles ago. The transmission fluid and filter were changed 20k miles ago. All 5 glow plugs were replaced 25k miles ago. The radiator, water pump and thermostat were replaced 30k miles ago. The engine has the typical diesel motor oil seepage, but between 5k oil changes the oil level drops no more than half way between the min and max on the dipstick. It has a block heater installed but it hasn’t been necessary; it starts right away even in the teens, the coldest temperatures we experience in this area. The car has a very high quality hidden tow hitch along with the proper trailer related wiring that I installed last summer but never used. It was installed in anticipation of purchasing a small sailboat, but that plan never materialized… so an added bonus for you! The car has been very well maintained, has never been in an accident, and can be driven anywhere. The exterior is all original and has been waxed regularly. The interior is super durable MB-Tex and looks like new! The car is very presentable, but upon close inspection there finish shows some effects of the sun. The only rust on the car is on the front left corner of the sunroof opening, and this is minor. I’m selling due to a move overseas. Don’t be put off by the mileage, it’s mostly highway miles and the car has been maintained very well. Lots of life left in this W124 diesel!
