It had the same owner for 28 years (from new until 2008), and comes complete with all of the original books, records, keys (even the little tags the dealer attached to the keys are still there), tools, brochure and more. It was purchased new from Century BMW in Alhambra, California. It retains its original blue California license plates, and original Century BMW license plate frames. (The front plate has been removed, but the car comes with the front original blue plate, mounting bracket and Century BMW frame and can be reinstalled in a few minutes). This car has never been restored. The paint is 100% original, the interior is original, it even has the original Blaupunkt analog radio. The interior is perfect, the dash has NO cracks, the seats and panels have no tears, it shows like a new car. The condition of this car is only made possible by a very careful owner, and the favorable Southern California and Arizona climates. It is completely rust free. The normally fragile early 80s German metallic paint is in excellent condition. This car is absolutely spotless, inside, outside, underneath, and in the engine bay. A true survivor, in remarkable original condition. (The only alterations from stock are the factory "IS" road wheels, restored to perfect condition, and the factory leather "IS" steering wheel, also restored to perfection. The original wheels and steering wheel are pictured below, and of course come with the car). It is a time capsule - driving it down the road takes you back to 1980. The car has received a full major service in the last 100 miles. This includes oil and filter change, valve adjust, brake fluid flush and bleed, transmission fluid, differential oil, spark plugs, cap, rotor, oxygen sensor, and timing adjustment. It has been mechanically gone through with a fine tooth comb, and any suspect parts replaced. The front brake pads and tie rods are brand new. It needs nothing. This three spoke factory "sport" wheel (below) is the steering wheel currently on the car. The original 4 spoke wheel (above) also comes with the car. The car has all of its original stickers on it. This is rare, as most of these stickers have been removed by owners, or faded, over the past 30 years. The 5 speed sticker was required by federal law (since the shift knob did not have the shift pattern on it), but almost all have been removed or fallen off by now. Most don't even remember this sticker being on these cars. Major service was done in January 2009. Valve adjust, air, fuel and oil filter, oil change, oxygen sensor, timing set, transmission and differential oils changed, new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor. The car needs nothing and is ready to drive.
