Vehicle Detail
Up for auction here is my 64 Galaxie 500 XL convertible.I hate parting with this car as it is one of my favorites but it has sat around virtually ever since I bought it waiting for me to take it to the next level and I simply have never been able to get the time to do the work it needs.I have owned it now for almost 10 years and hate not being able to get it out and enjoy it.The guy I bought it from put a new top on it and I have kept it covered since day one so it is still in very nice shape and it is a power top and works excellent. The previous owner also redid the interior and it still mostly looks nice as well. The bottom part of the rear seat does have a split in it and there is some dust cobwebs etc from sitting. The body is in fair shape. The previous owner installed lower quarters on both sides and did a pretty decent job but they will need redone again. The drivers side has rusted out and the passenger side is starting to rust. The passenger door has some pin holes that have come out on the front corner but other than that the doors are very good and open and close nicely, the bottoms/seams on both are good. Both front fenders are very nice. The hood is nice also with no rust on the front where they get it.The trunk lid is good but has bubbles coming out on the passenger side. The seam itself is good but it bubbled out in a weird spot. The floors are mostly solid but there is rust in the very front on both sides right where the kick panels are.The rest of the floors from the edge of the front seats clear back to the tail panel/trunk area are fine and will not need replaced. As far as the frame the only rust in it is directly under both doors.Chipmunks made nest in there and caused it to rust in those spots. The only other frame rust is back by the passenger side leaf spring shackle. The convertible X frame has held up fine and is in very good condition. The engine is a 1970 390 2V and runs very strong. The carb could use some fine tuning as it runs just a little rich but it will idle on its own after warmup.I also have the original 352 that was in the car when I bought it.It is standard bore but will need bored.I had all the original parts such as block, heads, intake etc cleaned right after I got the car.I put my own 390 in the car to drive it untill I got the original motor done(which never happened of course).I also had the original carb rebuilt and it is ready to go.I was told when I bought the car the transmission was in excellent working condition and I believe that is true. The only way I have been able to check it(other than first and reverse) is to jack up both wheels and run it that way since it has no brakes.I put a higher stall torque converter in it when I put the 390 in and the transmission shifts crisply in all 3 speeds. The car did have brakes when I got it but have since lost them.I am trying to get that fixed right now but just assume no brakes.I did install a new ignition switch, solenoid and coil a few days ago.I checked all the electricals on the car and it all seems to be in good running shape, wipers work but will need a switch, turn signals, heater, dash lights all work. The low beam headlights work but Hi beams are bad.None of the wiring on the car has ever been butchered so that has no doubt helped alot.As far as missing parts the only thing I know of that is missing is the original radio and xl emblem on the glove box door. The car has all four of its original XL wheel covers but 2 of them are in the trunk. The door tag info is as follows:Body 76B,Trim 84,Date 27D,DSO 32,Axle 1,Trans 4.One more thing I am running the car from a gallon container under the hood as the gas tank is dirty and needs cleaned. The tank itself is in good shape and not rusted but does need cleaned out.I have told all I know about the car but no doubt have missed something so please ask questions or better come look at it in person.I do not have a reserve on the car for the simple fact I have to sell it plus I will never recover what I have in it.I would like the car paid for and picked up within 3 weeks but its not in the way if more time is needed.Cash or cashiers check is all that is accepted for payment.Contact me first for any other payment methods.I am easy to work with. Also if you cant pay then please dont bid and no bidders with less than 5 on there feedback please.
