Vehicle Detail
1955 Pontiac Chieftain 2-Door Rat Rod Alright, so it's not REALLY a "rat rod", I just dig driving old primered cars from the 50's. It's not really made up of a bunch of other cars welded together like a true rat rod should be. This car appears to have been garaged most of it's life as all the hoses, belts, window seals, and even the tires look new. The interior had seat covers when I bought it, and when I pulled them off I discovered the original interior was actually in really good shape for being almost 56 years old. There are a few tears in the back of the driver's seat and a hole in the actual seat itself. There is also a tear in the passenger side seat, but I just covered the whole thing up with a matching towel and called it good. No money for a new interior right now, but it doesn't really need it. Even the original headliner is intact. This, I believe, is an original Washington State car as there is ZERO RUST aside from the small spot detailed in the description below. The lower passenger side front bumper was bent at one point and then bent back as the metal is creased. Other than the interior not being perfect and that dent in the bumper (which isn't even really visible in the pictures), this car is in great shape. NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF. Good tires. No cracks in the glass. IT RUNS GREAT. The original 287 c.i.d. Strato-Streak engine runs strong. I tossed out the old 2 bbl. carburetor and installed an Edelbrock 500 c.f.m. 4 bbl. carburetor so she could get up and go a little better. I think some headers and some wide-open tailpipes would really get this baby screaming. I replaced the fuel lines and the heater hose and the previous owner got the gas tank flushed and relined as well as having the generator replaced by an alternator. The radio even lights up, but I don't think I get any A.M. stations up here in Everett. It worked when I bought it. The outside was a mess and I primered it with rattle cans, so the paint isn't perfect. There is one small spot by the rear passenger window where the body lines dip and come back up where there is some rust. The body is straight and everything is there. I even replaced the old, cracked, rusty tail light lenses with N.O.S. lenses. The wipers work. The brakes could use a going-over. They were redone by the previous owner less than 5K miles ago, but I don't think they did a very good job. They work just fine, but you have to step on it a little more than I care for. It could use a tune-up to really get it in top-notch running state, but it runs fine right now as it is. Just give it 4 quick pumps of the gas and turn the key, and it should fire right up. I don't know what else I can really say. Oh, I'm throwing in a stock hood ornament, a spare radio for parts, and 8 factory hubcaps - 4 full-size and 4 dog dishes. I just like the look of it better with black wheels. It's a ton of fun to drive and I'm really going to miss it, but paying off bills comes first in times like these.
