The car was assembled in Glendale, California and could be seen in the neighborhood wheeling around. Lloyd Hunt was friends with Lindley Bothwell and when Hunt died, the chassis went into the Bothwell collection until the 80's when the present owner acquired it. Here's the story from the Standard Catalog of American Cars. First addition... Like many other postwar automotive inventors, Lloyd Hunt had dreams about building his own car. He went as far to construct a working chassis and sketch studies of the futuristic body he planned to use after reaching the production stage. A chief engineer for Southern California Edison Company, Hunt stuck to automotive basics in a technical sense, since his three-wheeled chassis was made of piece pirated from ten other cars. Yet, the components were assembled in an unconventional way. Part were scavenged from wrecking yards and included a 1925 Buick engine with the two middle cylinders cut out to make it a four pistons. Pistons came from an Auburn; rods from a Hupmobile; Brakes from a Ford; Transmission from a Chevrolet; Distributor from a Plymouth; and radiator from a Dodge. The third wheel, at the rear, steered the car, via cables linked to a Chrysler steering wheel. All this was mounted, in front-drive fashion, upon a square, channel-iron frame. The chassis was 131 inches. The rear wheel road against roller bearings and could turn 80 degrees, left or right. The rear had airplane type shock absorbers. The drivetrain tilted to rear at 45 degree angle. Plans called for a four door body with a plastic dome or bubble-top and a large, rear dorsal fin incorporated a rudder that would take over steering control. The body that Hunt invision was clearly aircraft inspired and was actually intended on mounting a larger version of the vehicle. Hunt hoped to realize production, or at least build the larger, more complete car, but it seems that this dream was never fulfilled. You can Google this article under Lloyd Hunt Glendale Popular Science. Unfortunately the body was never built and the auction is for the original chassis only. The unit does not run although it is complete. Please rely on the images for the fine detail. If you have a feedback score that is less than 10, please call us before bidding.
