Vehicle Detail
NOTE: Please read description fully before bidding. For more information and photos, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LgXVOSeLDs Location: Bike is located in Putnam Valley, NY zip 10579. Northern Westchester/Southern Putnam. Near I-84. Readily accesible from most areas of NY, NJ, CT, MA, and PA. Description: An exceptionally rare find, an untouched 1968 Bonneville with 1,390 original miles. With clear title. Last registration expired in 1977 and in storage since 1977. It has the original tires, tool-kit, fuel lines, original paint and plating, and matching numbers. Also included in the auction are the side-reflectors and air filters. The only things missing on this bike since it was new are the shift-lever rubber and air cleaner elements. It even has the chain-oiler and battery strap! Has the 2 original Triumph ignition keys. Still has the sticker over the speedometer. As close to a NOS '68 Bonneville as you're likely to find. Prior to Running When Taken Out of Storage: Care was taken prior to running the bike for the first time in 33 years. Oil was placed in each cylinder and allowed to sit for 2 weeks to prevent damage to the rings or bore. All oils were changed, and the gas tank was flushed. Grounds were cleaned, carbs were cleaned. Valve clearances checked. Other than that, there has never been ANY work or dis-assembly done to this motorcycle! There are no rounded bolt heads, botched or damaged parts, stripped threads, or screwdriver marks on this Bonneville. How it Runs: Bike makes great compression, 120 psi on both cylinders cold, and 150 psi on both cylinders when warm. Indicating next to no wear, and tight valve seals. It usually starts readily, but it runs rough, as would be expected. I suspect it needs new coils and condensors, as these parts are well-known to only last a certain number of years, even when not in use. It makes a weak spark on the left cylinder, so it intermittently runs on 1 cylinder. There are NO knocks or unusual noises when the engine runs. Sounds like a Bonnie! A brief video just to show the bike starts and runs can be seen on video by clicking the link above. The bike shifts through the gears no problem. Cosmetics: The plating looks better in most of the photos than it does in person. It was stored indoors, however, it was kept in a basement. The plating shows the signs of moisture, most notably on the headlight shell. Most of the fasteners also have surface rust from sitting. The gas tank has NO dents or dings. Will need no bodywork when re-painted, can remain all steel. The oil tank has a ding in the center. A dent in the tin cover on the clutch-side front wheel is present. Fenders are straight and clean. Suspension: Front end is TIGHT! No discernible wear in the fork bushings, wheel bearings, or steering head raceways. Same with rear: swingarm bushings are tight, bearings are good. Electrics: ALL the lights on this bike work, including the daytime running-light, the hi/lo beams, both the green and red headlight indicators, tail/stop lamps, and both the instrument lights. Motorcycle has the original wiring harness with yellow "LUCAS" sticker still in place. Speedo and tach both work, trip meter works. Horn works. TERMS of Auction: A $100 non-refundable deposit via PayPal at the close of auction. Balance due on pickup IN CASH ONLY. I ask that the buyer arrange pickup within 10 days of auction close. I will give you my phone number, and we can make arrangements and I will give you directions. No delivery of the bike, you must pick it up. IF YOU CANNOT PAY FOR THIS BIKE, PLEASE DO NOT BID!!! IF YOU RECEIVE ANY CORRESPONDENCE ABOUT THIS BIKE, OR PAYMENT, FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE BESIDES EBAY MESSAGE COMING FROM "ETNOBIS" , IT IS A SCAM!!!!On Oct-02-10 at 12:22:51 PDT, seller added the following information:Some prospective bidders have asked about the history of the bike. The history of the bike is as follows. This Bonneville was purchased new in Massachussets in 1968 by a retired man. The bike was used by him sparsely until 1977, when it was put into storage. In 2010, the family of its original owner contacted a family friend who has known about the bike since it was new, and asked if he wanted to buy it. He declined, as he already has several Bonnevilles (he has one of each year from 1965 through 1970). But his son, who is about 50, bought the motorcycle. The son however, does not have the knowledge nor tools nor facilities to get the bike running, nor to do really anything with it. He wanted to have an old Ford Mustang of his painted at the bodyshop, and put this bike up for sale shortly after he got it, to fund his Mustang project. I then bought it from him a couple of months ago. The original owner's name is still on the title and registration, and the title is dated May 14, 1975. The bike hasn't been retitled since then. This Bonneville's last registration expired in 1977. I have the last registration to the bike; this registration is included with bike-- and it expired June 18, 1977. I also have the last license plate that was on the bike; it is a Massachusetts plate dated "77".
