Up for auction is this 1951 Chopped Top Chevy Custom Lead Sled project. I do have some of the pieces cut to complete the sail panel but not all of them. The original rear glass opening was not cut but the entire opening was laid in so the original stock glass will fit in the rear. An original rear glass is not included in this auction, but should be easy enough to find or have made. All of the inside trim and V-pillar fabrication has been done. The front windshield will need to be custom fit but the 2 piece window design will be easy for any professional glass shop to fit. The door glass and quarter glass are just flat glass, I have the originals that can be used as templates so this should also be easy to reproduce. The car is really solid where it counts. The front clip, the front fenders and the hood are very solid. The inner fenders, the cowl panel, the firewall, around the front windshield, the A pillars and the door jambs, the deck lid and the trunk weather strip lip, and the tail panel extension are all super solid and free from any major through rust. The frame and all of the factory suspension is all very solid and in good condition. As with any car of this age, the usual rust repairs need to be completed. The floor pans need to be replaced, but the floor pan braces are solid. The trunk pan is also in need of replacement. The front lower quarter panels, the bottom section of the outer rockers, and the lower skins of the doors can use some patch panels, but all of this is pretty common in a car from the 50‘s. I have most all of the trim pieces to the car as seen pictured. I also have a grill (I can’t remember what it’s from) I thought would look pretty cool on this car and I was going to modify it to fit the car. Overall you have a pretty solid, decent foundation to start with including the top chop already done which is a pretty major undertaking. Drive Train: The original 6 cylinder and 3 speed transmission is still mostly in place. The head is missing off of the motor which I do not have. I do have the original intake and exhaust manifold for the 6 cylinder. My plans for the car were to use a small block 350 Chevrolet motor, 200R4 overdrive transmission, and a 10 bolt posi-traction rear end. These items are not included in this auction but will be offered to the winning bidder of this auction for an additional $500.00. The car rolls and steers easily and is movable. Interior: The dash is original and is super solid, uncut and free from rust. I have all of the factory headliner bows and inside window trim. The car does not include any of the interior trim, seats, or side panels. I also have a 1954 Chevrolet Deluxe that is pretty much a complete car minus the front seat that I was going to use as a parts car for this ‘51. The car will be offered to the winning bidder for an additional $500.00. (not pictured) This is still a major project and is still going to be a lot of work.
