1975 SUN BUG Hello and welcome to my auction. This here is a Ultra- Rare 1975 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible that is a Real "SUN BUG". If you are going to be emailing me debating or giving me pointers on what I have your just wasting your time and mine. I have done countless hours of research and fact checking , so I know what I have and there is no doubt about it. Volkswagen in the early 70's used different ploys to boost sales and in California were most beetle convertibles were sold in the 1975 year Volkswagen tried something different then the gaudy harvest gold "Sun Bug" that they introduced in the 1974 model year. California introduced two SUN BUG versions , one being the one I have being neon yellow and the other one being neon orange. There was a different wood grain steering wheel, different shifter knob and came originally with black interior and the optional sun bug stripe kit, bumper guards and front gravel guards . I searched high and low to find another one or even to find another one in neon yellow or orange and not been able to find another one anywhere. I bought this car from a collector in San Jose, who had this car stored for 25 years and was the original owner and told me it was bought in San Francisco in the summer of 1974 and all options were on the car when he purchased it new. He dealt more in Alfa Romaro's and knew he was never going to do anything with this one . So I bought it with the full intentions of doing a ground up full restoration and this car deserves it unlike others that are a dime a dozen. This one deserves to be in a museum or someone's rare collection and properly restored or you could drive it just how it is and still get many looks. You may ask why I did not restore it myself? And the simple answer is , once I repaint the car and start in on it , there will be no evidence of it's true other then the paint code sticker L-80-E or Helleifenbein which should stand for neon yellow and I did not want to do that and thought it would be better to hand it off to a collector or just a volkswagen enthustist that will give it ,it's proper restoration . I don't have the time to be hiring appraisers and taking it to body shops and what not to comfirm it;s original paint. The back fenders as well as the front hood was re-painted so it didn't look shabby but 90% including the interior is correct and original to the car. All and all this is a great car and if your not a collector and just want a beetle to drive . Then this is the perfect one for you and down the road it you would like to restore it or keep it original is up to you. What I'm doing with this car is a little diffferent then I have done in the past , as I have spent many hours and lots of money only to offer my car No Reserve and people think because it's going No Reserve that the car is not worth as much others with $8,000 $9,000 or $10,000.00 Reserves. So I am not restoring this car and I am offering it with a Brand New high horsepower 1835 cc engine that has been newly rebuilt with only 500 miles on it and this motor alone online is worth $2,000.00 minumin and that is not with carburator , exhaust ,tins, etc.Or if you are the purest I do have a fuel injected 1600 cc bone stock motor that is also fully re-built and everything works .That motor is running and driving in another car that I am personally using which can be switched in an couple hours if wanted. This is no bother to change it and I will do it free of charge, the following day of the end of auction. But I recommend leaving the 1835 where it is at and just enjoy the car. This has almost 3x's the power of the bone stock 1600 and won't leave you high and dry and run perfectly like it should. The tranmission was also checked and is in nearly new condition and is clean as a whistle and the car shift flawlessly and has a new clutch and all brakes were replaced including all wheel cylinders, all steel lines and all rubber hoses so you don't have to worry about anything. I truelly wish I could of restored this and if so I would be asking close to $30,000.00 but it is available one time only and if doesn't sell for any reason I'll just keep it and restore it back to perfect condidtion and take it to a Barrett Jackson auction next year where I know it will appreciated. There are a couple online sites that briefly mention this car but most do not even know it exsist and probably because it was only offered in California and in very small numbers. One well known Volkswagen shop here in California told me he did see the original one many years ago but has never seen the yellow one but thought it only came in a Coupe and he was surprized about my find. If you check online 1975 is skipped over . You can find a lot on the 74 Sun Bugs that were that not so nice gold and the 76 champagne and the 77 champagne II and the 78 champagne II but the 75 model year is often passed over and the reason is beause instead of coming out with nationwide promotions like the sun bug or the champanges and they only could offer 2 cars per dealership . There is other promotions that were used nationwide to boost sales but in California the yellow neon sun bug and the orange sun bug were what was offered. I am not positive if this was a dealer added option and that could explain why it was only offered here and was installed at the dealership. It was not a huge sale at the time and only limited to California so it is truelly a rare gem and lets just say for the sake of arguement that they never made a sunbug in 1975 then this is one of the rarest colors a beetle was ever offered in because Volkswagen online sites or dealerships do not carry the color and do not even mention it . They do mention the neon orange but you really have to look for that to. I have also been to paint shops and numerous paint stores and they do have the paint code but they do not have a formula. What I have found out is the color is the same or close to the same on the 2007 audi's and that makes sense that they re-named the paint and used it on the german car. It is called Brillant Yellow on the Audi's and that is what the fenders and hood is painted. If I am scaring anybody with how rare the paint code is , trust me , you can have it professionally matched using a paint scanner machine that they just put over the existing paint and it will get it almost perfect match.if you do not want to use the Audi color. Ok I think we explained it pretty well . There is new seat covers and a new convertible top and the bumpers are in very good original shape with original bumper guards. The engine is as stated above as well as brakes and tranmission. This is diffently a car that you could fly in and drive home and not worry for a second climbing the rocky mountains or coming down the other side. I hope everyone appreciates the oppertunity to have a chance at owning a true piece of German and American history . There are hundreds of plane jane beetles and even more champagne 2 editions then you can shake a stick at. I have personally owned 4 champagnes myself . Ok hopefully you know what you are buying as it is not perfect , 1 or 2 door ding and scratchs to be expected on a 34 year old car,but extremely rare. I normally do not bring up prices or what I am asking but in this case , if this car goes less then $5,000.00 I will be terribly disappointed and I personally paid a lot more then that. If you are a California buyer , you will never need to smog this car in it's lifetime. Car has been VIN inspected by the California DMV and is in my name and clear title will be sent to new buyer. This car has not ever been in any accidents and extremely tight . Please check out my feedback. On Sep-25-10 at 18:49:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Terms , there is no deposit only a phone call imediately after auctions end to confirm the sale and work out payment and picking up or having car transported. Full payment no later then 72 hours after auctions end. no making up your own terms please. Clear California title will be sent once all payments have cleared and arrives back from sacramento Dmv. I have sold several beetle Convertibles and all have been very happy and I have sold 2 beetle convertibles to a great Doctor in Texas with the exact terms so please follow the terms and we will bend over backwords to make this the easiest transaction you have ever had. All we do is buy good used Beetle convertibles and then pass on these collectable gems at a fair price. Thanks and happy biddingOn Sep-25-10 at 20:35:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I just noticed that there is water beading up on the hood, I just washed the car and took it for a drive around the block and around the park and thought it would blow dry. , so if your wondering what that is its only water beading up. ThanksOn Sep-26-10 at 19:34:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello all bidders, I see the bidding is not going well and i dont want to end this auction early and sell locally, but i can sell the doors off this car for $1000 , the motor for $2000, and part it out for over $6000 so whats keeping me from doing just that? If the bidding doesnt improve in the next 24 hours I will have no choice , but to restore the car or at least have the car completly repainted which this body is in great shape and only needing very very minor repair. In most cases this car could be ready for paint in 3 or 4 hours at most. The body only has a few minor dings and scratches and is in better shape then a 74 beetle I sold 3 months ago for $5,900 and it was a plain jane beetle. Ok if there is a buyer for this please dont wait to long or it may be gone. I will not sell locally or end auction early if I see the bidding is respectfull, but I have over $7000 in this car and $200 isnt cutting it and quite frankly a insult.
