Vehicle Detail
This 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in great shape for it's age and miles. It has been in storage since 2007. The body is clean with minimal scuffs, scrapes, dents or rust. The interior is good, no rips or tears. All instruments, accessories, and lighting work properly. Transfer case and 4WD is solid. The vehicle has 184,124 miles on it BUT the engine was replaced with a Jasper re-manufactured engine in 2004. There is approximately 85,000 on the replacement engine. The vehicle originally came with cloth seats. I replaced the front seats with power heated leather seats but I have not yet hooked up the electrical. You will need to replace the wire harnesses to power and heat the seats. I also have the rear leather seats. They are included with the auction but not yet installed. I used to pull this vehicle behind my motor home so a front hitch has been installed. I will include this front hitch with the auction. It can be removed and sold separately if you wish, or used to pull the Jeep. Okay, Now The Bad News In 2007 I took it in for a tune up. The shop reported the radiator had a leek and replaced it with a new unit. Unfortunately they forgot to put water in it before doing a test drive. The engine overheated, blew a head gasket and spun a rod bearing. The vehicle has been parked and stored since that time. The bad journal on the crankshaft needs to be polished out, the bearing replaced, and the head gasket replaced. For minimal work you could have a car with a good 50,000 miles of life or more on it. I no longer have the space, tools, or time to fix the damage myself so it is up for sale. Aside from the engine problem the following is a list of the known problems. If it's not listed here, assume it is not an issue. Front tires are worn and need to be replaced, rear tires are marginal There are a few small rust bubbles under the paint on the hood ( see pictures ) Small amount of rust is forming on the inner lip of the bottom of the doors. The pistons that hold open the rear hatch are weak and should be replaced soon The power module that controls the driver side locks and windows needs to be replaced. Currently the driver side power windows and locks do not work. The AC works, but only holds a charge for a few months at a time. There is a small leak in the compressor connections. The hood appears to have been over extended at some point, the back corners have a slight bend ( see pictures ) The vehicle starts up fine, but it is not drivable in it's current condition. The blown head gasket makes it run rough and running it with the damaged bearing will only create more damage and increase the cost of the repair. You will need to trailer or tow this vehicle. The vehicle may be view locally. Please contact me via e-mail if you want to inspect it.
